He looks like a high-ceiling, low floor pick. Somewhat of a gamble pick, because of poor production in college, but terrific measurables and potential. Bengals just need it to be the high ceiling. They've had other gambles who have not worked out. Need this one to be a grand slam. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Skans - 04-25-2025 Looking at the mock drafts here's where they had stewart taken: NFL.com...15 CBS Sports...varies 15, 15, 17, 23, 29 Sports Illustrated...31 USA Today...19 WalterFootball...9 The Ringer...15 So all these mediocre grades for a player taken pretty much where they said he would be taken. Walter football with a D grade, yet their mock draft had him taken at 9. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - QueenCity - 04-25-2025 Wouldn't it be easier to teach a kid who has the ability to get there to "finish". I feel like sacks are a combination of many factors and not just based on beating your guy.. If we can keep Hendrickson happy and on the field this year, matching Stewart at LDE with Trey could be quite interesting. Sack or not, we now will at least have pressure coming from the left side, which we have lacked in the last year or two. Add to that Jenkins hopefully getting a push up the middle and this might work out well. Since he is exceptionally young, I suspect the coaches think they can do a lot with him. Where am I insulting someone for not being positive? 2. When people don't know their ass from their TV screen where they supposedly watch their favourite team, I will point it out each time. 3. I'm not an optimist per se, I just don't see a point in bitching an whining like a housewife on her rag, like half of you do. The players are here, deal with it. If you want to be negative, do something else with your time instead of being a black cloud. That sounds like someone who takes pleasure in failure and being negative, not me. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Millhouse - 04-25-2025 Welcome! Honestly am in the middle ground on whether I think it's a good pick or not. The combination of his production, Bengals' draft history with guys like this, the unknown of Golden (lets be honest he is an unknown as an NFL coordinator), it's not easy without some copium to get super excited. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Sled21 - 04-25-2025 I remember when we drafted a 3T everyone said was too small. Washington signed him to a 3 year $41M contract. Jackson was one of the best corners in the league when playing man, he just couldn't figure out how to play in Zone to save his life. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - TJ528 - 04-25-2025 If I remember correctly, in last years NFL Draft many said the Bengals over reached for Mims at RT. He hadn't played so he didn't have the experience to play RT in the NFL. However, that kid came in and is now the starting RT for the Bengals. You could tell he was special as the season went on. Montgomery and Golden are new defensive coaches and they know what they like in a player. I'm going to trust them and hope this kid can develop as a rookie and put pressure on the QB. At 17, I'm happy with the pick. Great measurables RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - THE PISTONS - 04-25-2025 (04-25-2025, 08:05 AM)Goalpost Wrote: Some grades seen, so far Some drafts we get A's and B's and the guys are busts. So grades aren't that big of a deal. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Mickeypoo - 04-25-2025 (04-24-2025, 11:49 PM)Dean_Gilberry95 Wrote: Mike Katie and Troy, must’ve used ChatGPT for advice. I asked it last night and it chose Stewart. I hope he proves everyone wrong! Sadly, I would genuinely not be surprised at all if this were true. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - THE PISTONS - 04-25-2025 What I'll say on Stewart is he was a 5 star prospect coming out of high school. I think Texas A&M didn't use him in a system where he was a pass rusher. I think he was used to occupy blockers mainly and rush secondarily. He'll be used in a different role in the NFL. Would I have made this pick? No. But, I can see why they did. He's a freak athlete. Maybe he turns into a Myles Garrett. Hendrickson isn't going to be here much longer. Ossai is a big questionmark. Murphy is a questionmark. That said, seeing the guys picked after us...I don't know who I would have picked. Jackson at Guard. Campbell at LB, but he went 31. Harmon at DT, but we kept BJ Hill and signed that guy from the Packers and I think we actually have guys there. I think we're really thin at DE...especially with the threat that Hendrickson holds out. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Synric - 04-25-2025

On passing downs, they can put him inside with Trey and Ossai or Murphy on the outside and the rush should be pretty good. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Bengalstripes9 - 04-25-2025 This pick reminds me a lot of the Mims pick last year. A swing for the fences move on an athletic talent with elite potential but red flags. That’s the middle of the 1st round for you. these are the kinds of players you are looking at. Maybe they could have went with a safe guard but they can do that next round too. Could have went safety too but pass rush is a high value position and it’s the draft for it too. I’ll say I like the pick a lot more than I liked the Jonah Williams and Billy price picks. Those were safe picks. I wanted a pass rush in the 1st round and we got one so I can’t complain. Nolen went one pick prior making me feel better as well. Starks at the bottom of the draft makes sense for safeties to drop like always. They could look to safety in round 2 or later but I think the way guards are going off the board they may need to hit that button if it isn’t picked clean already. They need to improve the line of scrimmage as top priority. RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - Synric - 04-25-2025 (04-25-2025, 10:01 AM)Sled21 Wrote: I like that he can play over the Center. Stewart is so fast off the line the Guard can't get into position to help the Tackle. He converts speed to power which knocks the Tackle back into the RB who was trying to squeeze through to run a checkdown. It was a risky pick but there was tape on him dominating. Stewart is an edge that shows him having some speed but never finishing, not often enough at least. You draft this guy at the back end of the first. Tobin just balked the first round selection in a draft they couldn’t afford to miss on these picks RE: Welcome Shamar Stewart - NotBigzo - 04-25-2025 (04-25-2025, 09:44 AM)TJ528 Wrote: If I remember correctly, in last years NFL Draft many said the Bengals over reached for Mims at RT. The only thing going for Mims right now is that he stepped in and wasn't the worst RT in football. Hot take, but he jury is still out on him and the Bengals should've kept Trent Brown just in case. |
