It's now their time - CageTheBengal - 03-29-2017 Some of these guys are overdue for some NFL success and they will finally get their shot. Also I thought it was interesting Dawson got a mention. Totally forgot about that guy. Quote:Marvin Lewis is looking for the recent Bengals drafts to replace departed vets. http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Its-now-their-time/ebef926b-e92e-44c4-b3aa-f916b9db3cf7 RE: It's now their time - Beaker - 03-29-2017 I think Cody Core will open some eyes. With James Wright now gone in front of him, and a year of experience, he now moves into the just playing phase and out of the has to think about it phase. He could provide the deep threat opposite AJ that Marvin Jones had provided. He doesn't have to be the #2...he just needs to make opposing Ds respect the deep route on the other side so that AJ isn't two deeped as much anymore. He impressed me with his ability to get open deep and make the tough catch. A lot of times guys get here that are fast that get open...but can't catch the ball. RE: It's now their time - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 03-29-2017 Thanks for that Cage. I liked a lot of what Marv said here actually, there are the normal things he said that were stupid like not buying into Ced being primarily a LT. That is what he is and if Ced said it, he believes it. Don't say you don't buy into it, like you said you don't think the O-line is a concern. Of course it is. You could tell Hobspin wrote this. What i liked is Marv speaking about playing the best players when he was speaking about RG and Billings lining up next to Geno. We could actually get better at run blocking, stopping the run and rushing the passer all this year which i seriously see happening. We will see how Og protects Dalton's blindside though. This has to be everyone's biggest concern and we cannot just hand him the job like we did last year if he is not ready. I think Og will be much better this year but how much is the question? Getting OJ Howard in the first to help him out might be a sound pick the more i think about it. I agree with this, the second biggest problem last year besides O-line on Offense was the lack of a deep threat for much of the year. When Core got a shot, he opened up the Offense and made Defenses respect the deep pass, he has a gear similar to Chris Henry but is much more physical. I honestly did not see a weakness from him last year. He should of played much more. I have faith in Urban coaching this guy into something special. I like Boyd and Lafell a lot but they are not burners. Need to use Core lots this year if we don't draft a speedster early. Defenses have to respect the deep ball or predictability becomes a big damn issue. RE: It's now their time - BengalD - 03-29-2017 I guess we'll really see just how good the last few years drafts have been. All the pundits give them good draft grades but oddly enough - you see very little of those highly touted names on the field other than special teams or the occasional injury or breather. I am fearful that maybe they aren't as good as drafted or I would think you would have seen them push the starters for their jobs or as a minimum - more playing time. Guess we'll soon see! RE: It's now their time - BengalHawk62 - 03-29-2017 Ogbuehi has chosen to spend it at the toughest place possible, Jay Glazer’s MMA camp, a gym that focuses on the mental game in a sea of physical tests. I really like hearing this. I wish the whole offensive line would go thru it together. Well, can't blame them for WJ3 and Billings, injuries. These guys could become stars IMHO. Westerman on the other hand we should of seen last year with the injury to Boling. Still is a headscratcher to me starting TJ Johnson ahead of Westerman against the Ratbirds. ![]() (03-29-2017, 12:53 PM)BengalHawk62 Wrote: Ogbuehi has chosen to spend it at the toughest place possible, Jay Glazer’s MMA camp, a gym that focuses on the mental game in a sea of physical tests. RE: It's now their time - CageTheBengal - 03-29-2017 The thing that cracks me up the most when I'm reading something from Hobson is the fact he keeps pointing this out like it's some sort of achievement. "the only coach with more years on one club in the current NFL other than Belicheck." 0 playoff wins in those years. The Bengals needed to get him some game time to see if he was worth tendering and what level to tender. Glazer has been really talking up Ced as well. Said he is really fighting back and extremely athletic. Outran a WR. Knew he was athletic but hearing about him wanting to be great and not wanting to be beat gives me hope. They have seen TJ Johnson for years get beat in Preseason by 3rd and 4th stringers at Center. He played well against the Ravens but i would of thought they would of wanted to see what their new draft pick looked like that impressed in Preseason last year. Westerman is the future at Guard, not TJ Johnson who couldn't beat out our terrible Center. One game for a guy that has always been bad is not much of a gauge to me. I wanted Westerman in too, but I was simply speculating from the Bengals' perspective. I've never been a fan of TJ Johnson and IMO if he hasn't become a starter by now, he likely never will (or at least should). By the time of the Ravens game, it essentially became a tryout rather than a normal game. The team was already out of the playoffs and everyone was essentially checked out. Give your upcoming FAs a chance to get some regular game tape out there rather than just preseason tape. That's Hobson. He had another recent article where he made it sound like Mike Brown refused to listen to Baltimore when the relocation talk came up. No mention about trying to get a new stadium or anything like that. Let's just hope that he can use that athleticism to keep his body in front of RDE or OLB that will be coming hard at him, and get to the second level in run blocking.
