Bought my first guitar - bengal_fan_in_toronto - 08-31-2017 Gents, I just purchased my first guitar. I've always wanted to give it a go. As luck would have it though, I picked it up yesterday when i got home and I didn't sound like Gary Rossington out of the gate? Odd I tell ya anyways, it is an acoustic Seagull S6 original. So far (meaning last night) I just started doing some finger dexterity exercises on it. If any players have any advice or youtube links to other very novice instructional videos i'll take em. Odd I tell ya "I got my first real six-string Bought it at the five-and-dime Played it 'til my fingers bled Was the summer of 2017" Congrats, bro! Wish you were in the SW Ohio area as I could recommend a really awesome guitar teacher (Jim McCutcheon in Dayton). He might have some videos on YouTube. But the nice thing about guitar is that it is also one of the best instruments to teach yourself on. Patience and practice are all it takes. I need an outlet and at the end of the day, i have a piece of art in my house. I have a Seagull electro-acoustic that I bought in the early 90's, and it is absolutely wonderful. RE: Bought my first guitar - BengalsRocker - 09-04-2017 I really dig this guy's vids. He may be more intermediate on up though. https://www.youtube.com/user/PitchfeverAcademy This other guy teaches a lot of "campfire chord" type songs. Great for a beginner because he can walk you through just about any song and do it clearly. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmnlTWVJysjWPFiZhQ5uudg RE: Bought my first guitar - HarleyDog - 09-04-2017 Keep after the passion and don't ever give up when you're ears don't hear rapid improvements. It will pay off. RE: Bought my first guitar - grampahol - 09-05-2017 I have a nice Fender acoustic I've had for about 4 years. I've had several over the years. I started playing as a kid, but have never really gotten really good, but better than a lot of people. 99% of everything I can play are songs I've made up. I rarely play other people's songs. I really haven't picked it up much at all the past few years. My finger tips have gotten soft as a baby butt.. lol I had some stuff on soundcloud, but I've forgotten my username..maybe I'll find it again someday.. Oops..found it.. amellom if you feel like hearing my ymca room production on a cell phone lol They were not the best recordings ever .. https://m.soundcloud.com/amellom I entertain myself. The hell with everyone else. lol I've never had lessons except one drinking buddy we wrote Mr Fridgerator, Keep my beer so cold.. lol You might want to download Pitchlab to help with tuning.. You can tune in any key, just about any style..nice little app for guitar.. RE: Bought my first guitar - Storer50 - 09-06-2017 Very nice job on getting the seagull. Fantastic guitars.
