Deep Web Discussion - Dark-Net-Axon - 01-04-2018 As someone who has spent the past 12 years heavily involved in all aspects of deep web development, growth and technology; I thoughts perhaps I could share my expertise with anyone who may be curious about, or just wants to discuss different aspects of the deep web. RE: Deep Web Discussion - bfine32 - 01-04-2018 What is deep web? I recently heard a commercial talking about the dark web. Don't know what that is either RE: Deep Web Discussion - Dark-Net-Axon - 01-04-2018 (01-04-2018, 07:52 PM)bfine32 Wrote: What is deep web? I recently heard a commercial talking about the dark web. Don't know what that is either The surface web (or clearnet) comprises about 6% of the total internet. These are all the sites that are can be indexed and searched via regular engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc., as well as archive sites that can be accessed by more specialized engines. The deep web is basically everything else. However, within that other 94% of the internet, the deep web is comprised of 3 sections. One is what some refer to as the "invisible web" or "data net". This is where all private information is encrypted, stored and accessed. The second section (the hidden web) is similar to the surface web, except that it's comprised of sites that haven't been indexed for various reasons. Often included in the section are very old sites that haven't been crawled in years or private sites that intentionally were never indexed. These places can be very difficult to search, even with a very specialized engine, but there are some absolute gems to be found. The sites can be accessed from both the surface web and the deep web. The last section, and becoming increasingly more notorious, is the dark net, which requires a specific type of setup such as Tor, Freenet or I2P and preferably an environment like like Whonix, Qubes or Tails. There is a good quantity of absolutely incredible sites and resources on the dark net and it's also a great place for sharing information without ISP's, search engines or the government looking over your shoulder (assuming you take the proper precautions). The problem is that there are also many nefarious things that occur on the dark net as well. Within the realm of the dark net, anonymity and security are of the utmost importance. These sites also do not have normal web addresses, but instead have .onion domains. How much of the total web is comprised of that specific part of the deep web - and are you indeed from Amsterdam? Indeed, those things occur on the dark net unfortunately. As for the FBI monitoring the dark net, it does indeed. Do you know where else they monitor, and to an incredibly greater degree? The surface web. Every time you use the surface web, you are being monitored to various degrees by the entities of the FVEY, like the FBI, NSA, CIA, MI6, CSE, ASIS and many others. People are caught via surface web activity every single day. This doesn't even include those in 14 EYES countries who assume they are secure in their privacy by utilizing foreign servers, secure browsers and VPN's, only to find out that many of those services have agreements, unknown to customers, to relay user traffic history in real time to various agencies. The best current estimates are that the dark net comprises around 8% of the deep web. I'm not from the Netherlands. I was born and grew up in America. I moved to Amsterdam about 11 years ago. I am friends with a, now retired, high up in the FBI web task force and while you are right it is easier to monitor the "surface web" they have more assets monitoring the dark web because they have mechanisms in place at the ISP level to throw warnings on the surface side. Nothing is truly hidden if you are already on a watch list, that is the simple the reality of the internet. I thought this was something funny I heard the other day. The NSA actually knows the identity of Satoshi (Bitcoin creator) through the use of writing analysis cross checking hundreds of millions of online and print writings. When you have the ability to do something like that, you start realizing the reach of the U.S. government. RE: Deep Web Discussion - grampahol - 01-11-2018 Funny, when the big NSA spying stories broke and people were freaking out about big gubnit listening to our phone conversations about the only phone calls I was making at the time were to get bus schedules and talking to my kids.. I'm fairly certain that the NSA had relatively zero interest in when I caught the bus or whatever my kids were telling me.. "Subject is going shopping for milk and cheese.." I knew back then they had much bigger fish to fry than little old me or whatever my taste in porn was at the time, but that didn't stop millions of people from getting hysterical about it anyway..I recall several otherwise normally rational people telling me that the gubnit was going to use this information to wreck my life any time now.. I remember telling people that perhaps the government would finally figure out how to get things done on time if they listened in on my phone calls to the bus schedule line.. There are certain things out of principal you want to push back on, massive over reaching searches without warrants is one. I am pretty laid back when it comes to, the government is coming to get us, but once you give up a right it's hard to get it back. RE: Deep Web Discussion - BengalHawk62 - 01-12-2018 Not sure what he did, but his profile picture and avatar sure was weird. Anyone know what movie they came from? I get a bit bummed out whenever government decides to take privacy rights away from everyone in the name of 'security'.. I'm not real thrilled by the idea of ultra security since the average person isn't really all that affected by most of the simple breeches that the news and media like to portray as imminent threats to all of us. I do realize that there are some threats, but hey, take a fcking chance in life.. We're all going to die eventually..
