12th Pick Impact since 2000 - Luvnit2 - 01-23-2018

Judge for yourself below, but looks like a big hit or miss to me as far as drafting an all pro player. I would have thought 12th pick would have higher success rate.

I'd rather the Bengals just focus on getting a good player that has a low chance to bust. Don't try too hard to find a "future pro bowler" by chasing potential.

I agree and hard to find, but one with no medical history issues. It is absurd how many of our 1st round picks missed all or significant time due to injuries.

Yep. Lose valuable "cheap" years from that contract too even if the player does end up becoming a good/great player but injured.
I think especially with Ogbuehi, they let All-Pro potential drive too much of their evaluation and it backfired.

To me, the failures at #12 were all reaches at the time.

I remember thinking "what the hell are they taking this guy so high for" when the following were drafted:

Hayden, Ponder and Lewis.

I'm pretty sure Mike Zimmer was in love with Hayden and we would have taken him had he gotten to us at 21.

I remember busting out laughing when Ponder went #12 to Minnesota. His wife would've been worth that pick though!

Yep, at #21.

More often than not, if you reach early, the player ends up being a bust.

I'm not sure I'd say 9 spots were the difference in the kids success.

In that case a choice between Vita Vea, Roquan Smith, and Quentin Nelson (likely gone) makes the most sense. Knowing Mike Brown, expect neither of those three. My guess is the Bengals end up with Mike McGlinchey or Connor Williams.

Not saying it is either, but looking at that list, it seems like all the disappointments were guys that are taken much higher then expected.

That list is the good, bad, and ugly.
