Jordy Nelson torn ACL vs. Steelers - BonnieBengal - 08-23-2015

What a waste! They need to rethink preseason.

If it is a guy's time to get injured, it's his time.  Could have happened in practice, just as easily.

I'm guessing that Nelson was your keeper, in your fantasy league?

Or just stop letting dirty teams like the Steelers play in the preseason ThumbsUp

:)  I didn't see the play, so I don't know what happened.  Did anyone here see it?

Exactly. Plenty of guys have ended their season during practice.

It was a non contact injury.

Players need to play to get into football shape. Injuries can happen at any time your doing anything athletic.

It's not confirmed yet. It didnt look good but he did limp off on his own power and looked to me more like a hamstring problem.

They can spend more time in practice and play two games instead of 4.

Injuries happen in practice all the time as well. That's what happened to Kelvin Benjamin. You just have to accept that injuries will happen in sports. I would like to see them cutdown preseason games as well but not because of avoiding injuries.

I realize that but teams have more control over their own practices.  I didn't see the play, but some Packer fans are blaming the Steelers poor turf.

Injuries happen; the human body just wasn't made to play football and be 100% healthy at the same time.

RE: Jordy Nelson torn ACL vs. Steelers - Aquapod770 - 08-23-2015

ACL injuries are non-contact injuries a vast majority of the time. Sucks for me that Nelson was one of my keepers in fantasy. :snark:

Players need to get into game shape and the only way you can do it is by playing in actual games. If the injury was because of the poor turf then maybe they should make Pitt fix there field.

Blaming it on the "poor turf", is a poor excuse.  Athletes are accustomed to playing on a variety of surfaces.  However, I can understand the Packers fans being butthurt over losing Nelson for the season.

There is no excuse for having bad turf though. The NFL needs to make sure every field is 100% up to par.

They do, right here explains it all.

Oddly enough, the Steelers lost Pouncey to ankle surgery, yet I haven't seen any of them crying about the field condition in the thread related to the injury..

And Maurkis Pouncey has a broken ankle from the same game.  http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/23/maurkice-pouncey-believed-to-need-surgery-for-broken-ankle/

Well that's because it's their field!

Still, the field has to be NFL certified prior to play on it.  The NFL obviously does not want teams leveraging any sort of 'unfair advantage" by creating field conditions that are not optimal for NFL stars (aka huge money makers..) to be playing on.  The only thing that the NFL cares about is the bottom line, right?  And just how much do you think that the bottom line is affected by the loss of favorite target of the best, or even second best QB, of the team with arguably the largest following in the huge money maker that is the NFL?

Believe me, the league hates to see stars go down with injuries.

Back in the day, when something bad happened, and the blame could not be pointed to any sinister force, they called it "the breaks".  As in, aw man, losing Jordan for the season is a tough break for Green Bay, but hey, that's the breaks..
