Looks good on paper? - HarleyDog - 06-09-2018 Nice article by James Rapien. There are some what if questions out there concerning this team. We have struggled watching a self destructive team in the past and its a hope crusher. I really think this year is different and the Bengals, who are doing un-bungle like things have acted like they want to win. They are making great decisions. The spirit and atmosphere is different. On the field, in the press and even in here. Step over New England. If this shit works like it should, we are going to be a solid dynasty. Although, Dynasty's are made of younger teams who retain their players and coaches, that will be another hurdle if we win. Got a lot of hope for this season. Actually, more belief than hope. Yet, the last line of this article is the big question. "Right now they look great on paper. Can they reach their full potential in 2018? Quote:The Bengals offense has been tough to watch over the past two seasons. They didn’t score a touchdown until Week 3 in 2017 and finished last in the NFL in total offense. RE: Looks good on paper? - SunsetBengal - 06-09-2018 Great share, Harley. And I agree, they do look good on paper. But what really sticks out the most to me, is when one of the other talking heads (I forget which one) said something about the coaching changes, along the lines of "The entire building is rejuvenated". Things like that speak more to culture change, attitudinal change, a raising of expectations. While it's true that this is another "reset" of the Bengals under Marvin Lewis, this latest group of young talent to join the team at least has the benefit of joining in with a corps of veteran performers that are more used to winning seasons, than losing seasons. When people speak of "windows" of opportunity, I really feel like the Bengals window for the next 2-3 years can be as good as it was with the 2015 group. Funny you say that. This is exactly how I'm feeling with these guys. Call it good reporting or brainwashing, lol. I see things I haven't seen in a while. So do the guys on the team. If our players are going to buy into it, then I must as well. They believe in themselves and what the organization is doing. Much different than last year when you could tell they didn't care and were disgruntled before kickoff. I seen it and you probably did to. They weren't in it. Now? They are not only in it, they are believing. Would have been nice to have been on "Hard Knocks" this year so we could get an in depth look. But, I'm extremely satisfied with what I'm seeing right now. But then again, not being on the show is good also when you view from a different perspective. I don't want other teams seeing what these guys are about. RE: Looks good on paper? - SunsetBengal - 06-09-2018 (06-09-2018, 06:38 PM)HarleyDog Wrote: Funny you say that. They are not only in it, they are believing. Well, the coaching changes (in my opinion) are going to make a much bigger impact than the personnel changes. Heck, we had guys leaving the team last year, that spoke up in interviews about not even being acknowledged in passing by their coordinator. I don't know if he will or even has the stuff, but what the heck, I'm rooting for the kid someday. Every time the Browns throw 4+ worthless QBs on the field in any given season I'm terrified at least one of them is going to be Tom Brady. RE: Looks good on paper? - cooper - 06-10-2018 Driskell is the most talented quarterback the bengals have RE: Looks good on paper? - cooper - 06-10-2018 lousy offensive line caused all problems last year..noticed that Mike Browns unofficial stepson...and Assistant Head Coach, Paul Alexander was finally let go..best change of the offseason RE: Looks good on paper? - HarleyDog - 06-10-2018 (06-10-2018, 11:06 AM)Nately120 Wrote: I hear ya. It wont happen for the Browns, They have more problems than we do, Tom Brady had a good head coach with BB. They have Hugh. Marvin on the other hand is something of a mystery. We can blame MB for his setbacks, but we can also blame Marvin for his inability to get over the playoff hump. Yet, when you look at the broader picture? Marvin was surrounded by bad coaches and FO (Zimmer an exception). I'm not a Marvin fan at all. I still think he is good enough to get us there, but nothing after that and his history agree's with me. If he rebuilds this team right (and it appears so) and gets to the playoffs and loses? We have to can his ass. RE: Looks good on paper? - fredtoast - 06-10-2018 Every thing can be made to look good on paper. Like those naked pictures of your mom. RE: Looks good on paper? - Go Cards - 06-10-2018 Thanks for sharing, stoked to see how the new Bengals look on the field. RE: Looks good on paper? - SHRacerX - 06-11-2018 Nice article. It kind of reeks of that old line about potential getting people fired. I am excited for Lazor to get an entire offseason to run his offense. I like the new WR and QB coach. I don't really know enough about Austin and I was never impressed with any facet of Detroit's defense, but I am willing to give him a chance and I like the draft picks we made and the FA acquisition of Brown in the middle. I am happy that the talking heads and Vegas have the Bengals as underdogs this season. I want them to have the "no one believes in us" mentality and come out firing. I know that seems stupid and simple, but our history shows we seem to do better without expectations. RE: Looks good on paper? - HarleyDog - 06-11-2018 Doing better than what’s expected. Made me wonder if that is a team thing or a Marvin thing? Only reason I say that is when we don’t have the world noticing us, Marvin coaches. When we do, Marvin struggles to win. Or is it the entire team? Players have come and gone but Marvin remains. |
