The bigger question..Do you want Marvin fired if it means Hue will be coach. - TKUHL - 12-24-2018

Seem the question poll about Marvin but there's so much more to it. Personally I don't think Hue is any better than Marvin, think about that....So what do ya do? You finally let Marvin go and roll the dice with Hue for 15 years or just remain mediocre. I think we're screwed no matter what "ground breaking" moves Mike makes, if any at all.

So as much as I hate the thought, I guess I would be fine with moving on from Marvin since it's some kind of change. Maybe most of the staff will go also. And maybe Mikey won't hang from Hues nuts for 15 years. But fromMarvin to Hue sure take the joy out of it. Geeze only the Bengals.

I’d take Hue over Marvin at this point. Hue had a better than expected year with Oakland, then got shafted. His run with Cleveland was terrible, but it allowed them to build the foundation of their current team. Is Hue as bad as Cleveland’s record over his tenure? No, they were burning it down to build it back. Bringing in Dorsey was key. They were starting to win with Hue, and most of the beef with the players is that Hue landed with a rival immediately after being fired.

Promoting Hue to HC also gives the team a chance to put Marvin in a front office role that he’d likely do better in. While Hue would not be my 1st,2nd,3rd, or 5th choice for HC, at this point any change is good change.

I get what your saying but why does everyone think Marvin will just slide right in and be a good GM? He couldn't manage the team as is. Draft picks has been horrible, players don't develop, he never wants to play players no matter where they are drafted. I just don't get why we should settle for Marvin as GM. He would be my last pick at this point. No reason to keep him as GM just to get him off the sideline. I get it that everyone wants a GM and Marvin might be the closest to Mikey for this to ever happen but I don't see it working out like we hope. And after another 15 years he will retire and we will be back to no GM. Marvin is not GM material and nothing other than Mikey being comfortable with him qualifies him.

At this point I wonder if Mike looks at the Bengals as a way to make money (obviously), but he gets his jollies by trolling the fan base that has ripped him for years.

I mean, if he cared about seeing major success before he dies, you'd think even a stubborn moron could see that Marv isn't getting it. Even if playoffs were the goal, Marvin hasn't even been reaching that low bar for the last 3 seasons. So either Mike takes great joy in sticking it to the local fans, or he just views Marv as family and refuses to fire him no matter what. Maybe both.

I certainly know Marv will continue to shamelessly pick up checks as long as Mike is offering.

Yes......but what standard would he be held to? Marvins ? Would he have a shorter leash?

If it means having Hue as the HC, then absolutely NOT. I'll stick with mediocre Marv over Hapless Hue, any day, any week, any season. The guy might be good at coaching individuals or even an offensive unit, but he's proven that he cannot manage an entire team, twice now.

After Oakland, I was willing to give him a pass, due to the Davis family factor. However, up in Cleveland, they handed him an absolute shitload of talent, and he was unable to organize them into a cohesive, winning unit. Then, pretty much as soon as they can him, they start winning. Tells me that HE was the issue up in Cleveland.

Marvin and Hue are already a two man cavalcade of coaching crapola. Next year it will be the same thing. Marvin as HC hue as OC. Brace you self for more butt stinging losses to the cocky asshat QBs in the AFCN. Amen.

I'd take Hue. I don't see us getting any postseason success with either guy, but at least Hue's teams would find Hu(e)morous ways to lose games. Marvin's current teams are just so bland and boring.

It's sort of like asking if you would like to go to Hell or Hades, IMAO.

Depressing to think about it

I don’t think Marvin would be GM; more of a front office talent evaluator type. The bottom line is Mike loves Marvin, and Marvin will have a FO job in some capacity if he desires it. He doesn’t necessarily have to be good at it either.

This is like that eternal feeling of being in traffic purgatory.

Spite.  This is exactly what it is.  This is why I want him to take his low grade circus and GTFO.  Having this travesty is worse than not having a team at all.

No. Hue is part of the current culture, from which we need drastic change. If he is next up, we might as well just keep Marvin.

RE: The bigger question..Do you want Marvin fired if it means Hue will be coach. - bengalfan74 - 12-24-2018

I want no part of either one of them, period.

Marvin or Hue? That’s like being asked if we prefer lethal injection or electrocution.

So true. Plus Hue might be bad enough to get fired inside of 15 years.

Hues or Hughs that I would rather see coaching this team:

1. Hugh Jackman Pros: Tall and muscular with a good personality, could possibly fire this team up. Maybe still has the Wolverine claws for the refs during Steelers games. Cons: Likes to sing and dance way too much

2. Hugh Laurie Pros: Seems like a smart guy Cons: Seems like a smart guy (conflicts with owner)

3 Hugh Hefner Pros: Built an empire through tasteful semi Pornography. Might be able to get Mrs. Driskel in the centerfold. Can relate to Mike Brown age wise Cons : Deceased , maybe a pro after seeing this team play

Good analogy. I was going to say choosing between Hue and Merv is like Russian roulette with a loaded gun
