Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - impactplaya - 09-13-2019 John Ross's Game vs Seattle was a long time coming But it could impact the depth chart roster. Mainly Alex Erickson. Remember how in the off season some had Alex as the 3rd WR behind AJ and Tyler. Well not anymore. Your 3 WRs now are AJ Tyler Ross. All of a sudden Erickson is pushed down. But now you have Willis probally the 4th WR. And now you throw in Simmons letting Phillips return Kicks now. I see Erickson getting fewer snaps and that last WR spot on GameDay is between Cooper and Erickson. I don't see the Bengals cutting Auden Tate Anytime soon. Like I said before Erickson is a decent Player but I think ZT is looking to infuse More speed in this team. He may get fewer snaps than Willis at the moment but if he keeps outperforming Willis on those fewer snaps that will eventually change. You certainly can't claim that Willis is forcing him down the depth chart just yet. RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - fredtoast - 09-13-2019 If ZT is looking for speed he will keep Erickson and release Tate. Alex ran a 4.44 forty at his Pro day which would have placed him fifth among wide receivers at the com bine. According to NFL.com, he ran a 4.52 at his Pro Day... http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/alex-erickson?id=2556210 That's still obviously (much) faster than Tate though. I think unless/until Cooper and/or Phillips establishes himself as THE return specialist, you have to keep Erickson. Maybe get rid of him after this season, as there's only a dead cap of $166k in 2020. That is the problem with Pro Days https://sconniesportstalk.com/2016/03/09/wisconsin-pro-day-analysis/ Packers GM Ted Thompson and 30 other NFL scouts looked on as Erickson took over Pro Day. Erickson ran his 40-yard dash in a time of 4.44 seconds, which would have placed him fifth among receiver prospects at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. His 3.88 second pro-shuttle also would have placed him second among receivers at the Combine. He only fumbled once all of last year. However, having Tate active on gameday gives them another key weapon in the red zone and short yardage until Eifert is 100%. Eifert still seems a bit sluggish, but I have faith he will come on strong. RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - grampahol - 09-14-2019 Erickson will be around until the next latest and greatest thing comes along. Then he'll either get cut in camp or elect for free agency and become another teams next latest and greatest thing. Short of serious injury he'll be employed in the league awhile. RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - impactplaya - 09-14-2019 Taylor brought in Cooper and now Phillips is going to return kicks. It all adds up to Erickson being on borrowed time on kick and punt returns, Kick returners get replaced all the time Erickson plays hard.but as some point you have to start making plays That can impact field position turn the game around He's not that special of a player He's middle of the road RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - Bengalfan4life27c - 09-14-2019 I still feel Erickson is 4th best receiver on this team. He is extremely quick on short routes that is an above average trait. He would probably be 2nd best receiver on Steelers. I'd take our starting 3 over their number 1 RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - TheUberHuber - 09-14-2019 Willis looked better last week to me than Erickson ever did. RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - Circleville Guy - 09-14-2019 One game and he’s now an established receiver. I just don’t get that in the least. My eyes need to see more but hey, I guess now he is a dependable starter. A smart GM would have extended him on the plane ride home. I don't even mean to sound like a smart ass, but the guy has a history of missing a ton of games, and he's had all of one good games in his career. I hope he develops a trend tomorrow, but I'm not releasing guys on his account yet Ross is also gonna be seeing some of Richard Sherman tomorrow. RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - Bengalitis - 09-14-2019 Every player has a good game they shine in, great players have many good games. Let's hope he duplicates again tomorrow. Erickson is not a #3 WR in the NFL on a good team. He's probably a 5 and returner. Nothing wrong with that. I doubt he was ever going to put up #3 level WR production. He basically made a baby step and had far from a complete game. They are good signs but his past says to cautiously hope for continuous improvement. RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - reuben.ahmed - 09-15-2019 Ross has to show us more than 1 game. He had a lot of drops. Maybe it's nerves and not working with Andy much. You can bet the niners watched the tape and with AJ gone, they will be focusing on containing Ross' speed better. That is the quality of a great WR, the attention is on you and can you stlil get it done? We won't really know what Ross can do for this team until AJ is back. Old man AJ needs to stop getting injured... RE: Maybe a development from Ross's breakout game. - Socal Bengals fan - 09-15-2019 Ross definitely has his drops , but the speed he showed was the speed he showed at the combine. Let’s just hope he stays injury free and breaks out this year . He’s on my fantasy team but still on the bench until one more break out game. |
