Now he can call Puig stupid without pissing off Reds fans. ThumbsUp  I hope it's a good signing. He was pretty effective against the Reds for the most part, but he did walk quite a few last year. Hopefully he can corral the Cubs, Brewers, Pirates and Cardinals when called upon.

They’re are definitely bringing in lots of options for the bullpen. Hopefully atleast one of these vets can return to their old form and make the team out of Spring Training.

I bet Pittsburgh just loves the drip drip drip of Reds news and the firm knowledge they, not the Reds will be the cellar dwellers for the foreseeable future no matter what. ThumbsUp I had a real smug roommate in a shelter I was in from Pittsburgh a few years ago who loved rubbing it in about how good they were and how bad the Reds were. He was a dweeb then and I'm 9999.99999% sure he still is. He once got beat up coming back from a bar drunk and bragged he kicked all their asses, but there were witnesses to that fatal event who told an entirely different story of how he picked a fight he couldn't win. I trusted those witnesses and so did everyone else. Cool

Strop did not have a good 2019 season ERA for a reliever. I kind of like the right handers we had in the pen. My concern is Reds may not have enough Leftys. You need those Left Handers in the Pen also.

So, who do we have as solid Left Handers in the bullpen ???

With all these Reds moves, I feel some trades coming. Just as that Dodger deal only took us to more trades. Reds are starting to have too many players. The rosters are still around 25 players, right. They can't all make the team. They do go into Spring Training loaded up at many positions. Some won't make the team.

Again, do we have enough lefty's in the pen. You need 2 or 3 of those guys in the pen. Who is our Long Reliever Mop Up Man and Emergency Starter, you need one of those also. It can't be Lorenzen if we plan to use him in late innings, which he has earned. Who will be our Long Reliever to eat innings when needed ? Go long in extra innings if needed ? Come in early in games if needed ? Mister Mop Up Man. Every team needs one pitcher in pen who eats innings doing the dirty work of taking one for the team. Saving rest of pen for another day.

The only thing that really worries me with Strop is his age, 34, but last season was his worst in some time, but it's not like he just fell off the cliff like a couple of others did last season with the Reds, Hughes and Hernandez. I doubt the Reds keep him around long if he comes right out looking like a hot mess. They have other options.
Bullpens are not very predictable for any team as most bullpen arms are generally failed starters anyway. Most are one inning away from the end of their careers, but occasionally some will hang around for years with a lot of success. If last year was an outlier for Strop and he bounces back we'll have gotten a winner. He's low risk, high reward.

Stephenson is the long reliever emergency starter. Currently Garret and Cody Reed are lefties on the 40-man, but Nathan Jones could also make the club if he can stay healthy.

I would like to see more lefties in camp.   Iglesias and Lorenzen are locked in as late inning righties and Garrett as late inning lefty.  Stephenson or whoever as the Mop Up Man working as many innings in a game as needed to stay in the Bigs as Long Reliever.   That is 4 right there, plus 5 starters makes 9.   As they fill out bullpen we need at least 1 more lefty, maybe 2 more.   Don't lose games because all we went out and got were right handers.  Strop can't get by on his name either, he has to still have some game.  I always remember Reds bringing in Kent Tekulve but he was washed up over the hill batting practice.  Some of these relievers do not get better with age.  Dibble, once Dibble was done, he was done and he became batting practice.  Old relievers can't get by on their names, they have to have some gas left in the tank.

We still need lefty's in the pen, but not as much as before.

The new rule is that you can not bring in a reliever to face just one batter unless he is the last out of the inning. So no more bringing in a "left handed specialist" to get out just one tough left handed batter.

Yea, with the LOOGY basically being eradicated from existence, 2 lefties out of 8 is probably enough.

Right now, I think our bullpen is:
Lorenzen RHP
Stephenson RHP
Lucas Sims RHP
Pedro Strop RHP
Raisel Iglesias RHP
Amir Garrett LHP
Cody Reed LHP
Matt Bowman/Joel Kuhnel/Sal Romano/Nate Jones (all RHP).

That last slot could still theoretically be a LHP, but who? I honestly don't know where else we can get a LHP.

They signed lefty Jesse Biddle to a minor league deal with a spring training invite. He had a good 2018 with the Braves, but a terrible 2019 with Braves, Mariners and Rangers, so another bounce back candidate.

Bounceback candidates are beginning to resemble the Democratic presidential candidate field.. Mellow
