Article of Hope!! - Luvnit2 - 03-08-2020 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001105526/article/will-success-be-similarity-for-bengals-70-steelers We can only hope and pray. Of course, even the Steeler's needed the Immaculate Reception by Franco to win a playoff game and get them started a few years after Bradshaw was drafted. RE: Article of Hope!! - Sled21 - 03-08-2020 Nah, didn't read it. I don't want our upcoming success linked to the Stealers in any way shape or fashion. RE: Article of Hope!! - Gamma Ray Tan - 03-08-2020 The Bengals future success will not begin on draft day, it will begin in 10 days when free agency starts. We will see just how much this organization REALLY wants to win. Burrow is not going to carry this team, it has too many holes to fill and banking on unproven rookies ( Ogbuehi, Fisher, Ross, Price, Sample) is the reason this team is where it is right now. Go get 1-2 difference makers in free agency.....THAT is where we begin our turnaround. Joe Burrow would approve. Yeah, totally agree with this RE: Article of Hope!! - Pat5775 - 03-08-2020 (03-08-2020, 10:04 AM)Sled21 Wrote: Nah, didn't read it. Well we won’t be pumping our entire team full of newly-discovered steroids like it’s 1970, that’s for sure RE: Article of Hope!! - leonardfan40 - 03-08-2020 (03-08-2020, 11:20 AM)Pat5775 Wrote: Well we won’t be pumping our entire team full of newly-discovered steroids like it’s 1970, that’s for sure Why not? To be fair, most of those rookies had veterans in front of them for at least a year or two before being put into a starting role. When Fisher and Ogbuehi were drafted, Whitworth AND Smith were the starters. When Ross was drafted, they had AJ, LaFell, AND Boyd ahead of him. When Sample was drafted, he had Eifert AND Uzomah ahead of him. Don't pretend these were rookies forced into starting. It was the Bengals choosing to draft their replacements once contract was up. It was a lack of development/quality drafting, not forcing players into starting roles as rookies. The problem with their approach to FA is they rely too much on their draft picks to develop into quality starters. The outside FAs they get are mid-to-lower tier and just stopgaps until draft picks develop. If those draft picks don't develop, the team gets into the state it's in now. Only one way to find out. Get Burrow juiced up the second he's drafted. We will see, they better make some big moves or no one will care and Burrow will want out in 3 or 4 years regardless. We are apathetic now until we make big moves. Schobert and Glasgow and we all will be satisfied and so will Burrow. RE: Article of Hope!! - Nati#1 - 03-08-2020 Mike will go out and waste his money on non difference makers (scrubs) and make it look like were making signings RE: Article of Hope!! - bengalfan74 - 03-08-2020 There's been a little buzz going around that the Bengals are gonna be players in free agency. I have some hope that it's true but I just can't buy all the way in. But I'm also interested in seeing what they do with Dalton, Glenn, AJ and whoever else. This team IMO needs some retooling. Schobert or Lawson, Kendall Fuller or Logan Ryan and Bulaga or Glasgow would be an amazing Free Agency RE: Article of Hope!! - ezekiel23 - 03-08-2020 The Bengals are in a good position to really start turning things around for this franchise if they don’t mess it up.They hold the most coveted #1 overall pick in the draft.Same as 2 in first round since they’ll be getting last years first round pick back healthy. Then pick 33,which should be an immediate impact player. They should be active in free agency as they’ll be freeing up around 17 mill by unloading Dalton. If,,,they have a successful draft, and are aggressive in free agency,It could go a long way in turning this team around.Lets just hope they don’t mess it up. RE: Article of Hope!! - NATI BENGALS - 03-09-2020 Offseason winners rarely win when it counts. We don’t need to sign Clowney and Cooper for me to get excited. We don’t need one or two prized free agents. We need to add a handful of solid free agents. I read that article and was gonna post it but I’m not too good on my phone. I like all the similarities. 50 years later it’s the Bengals turn this time. RE: Article of Hope!! - TheLeonardLeap - 03-09-2020 (03-08-2020, 02:32 PM)Nately120 Wrote: Only one way to find out. RE: Article of Hope!! - Luvnit2 - 03-09-2020 This thread went sideways quickly. We all know the future depends on great drafts and roster decisions coupled with great coaching. The point of optimism was prior to drafting Bradshaw, the Steeler's FO success was abysmal and worse than the Bengals the past 10 years. The Steelers had decades of losing (sound familiar). That same ownership group hired Chuck Noll and drafted Bradshaw and then turned the franchise around. Yes, steroids back then were a boost to them and a lot of teams. But, the point is after decades, they went from worst franchise in the NFL to one of the best. The Bengals did the process exactly correct but doing it the right way with the wrong ingredients leaves a bad taste. Tomorrow is a big day, franchise tags deadline. AJ tagged? We all better hope that the days of re-signing all of our own FAs are gone now because the talent is not there like it was. I understand that Taylor's new staff was behind the eight ball last year and they had no choice but to re-sign some of the same guys and not other FAs. But, if I'm that staff, I'm banging on the tables for Mike Brown to work to get new blood in the building. Let's binge the old players like Dre, Hart, Price, Williams, Gio, Eifert, Vigil, Evans, etc....and bring in several FAs and stock up with 8-9 new blood players with Burrow from the draft for a fresh start! |
