Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - corpjet - 03-15-2020 now get the county to extend another 20 years and the Bengals will be locked in Cincy for the foreseeable future! RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - SunsetBengal - 03-15-2020 Here we go. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001106247/article/nfl-players-approve-cba-impact-on-league-in-2020-and-beyond Quote:After 10 months of negotiations, some very public player splintering, a little last-minute tinkering and even the election of a new union president, the NFL has a new collective bargaining agreement that will govern its relationship with players for the next 11 years. The agreement is a sweeping, 400-plus page document. Let's explore what its passage means by examining five crucial questions in the aftermath: RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - Bronze Bengal - 03-15-2020 I'm ok with adding another playoff spot but think the games should be held at just sixteen. Too late now, games will go to 17 in 2021 it appears and playoffs may expand this year. RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - Sled21 - 03-15-2020 Less and less padded practices will lead to even more sloppy football. RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - Big Boss - 03-15-2020 Doesn't a 17-game season give 16 teams an advantage? Half the league is getting an extra home game. RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - grampahol - 03-15-2020 I don't really care about this CBA, but the rank and file would have been absolutely crazy to turn it down. For players making league minimum it puts $90,000 more in their pockets for one more game. How many of you have ever gotten a $90,000 raise for one more day of work per year? RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - TheLeonardLeap - 03-15-2020 I hate the idea of expanded playoffs. Average length of an NFL career is 3.3 years, 65% of all players made minimum contracts last year. The 20% raise was well deserved. The minimum contract for players on rookie deals last year was $495K, this year it is $675K. With the highest proportion of the players making league minimum, and the average career length being 3.3 years, that takes the expected earnings for a player struggling to hang on a roster from $1.63M to $2.23M. Now, most of those guys will go on to use their educations, and become professionals in something other than football, once their brief time in the league passes. However, if a player is smart, manages his money well and invests while he's in the league, it certainly sets him up with a good foundation for his future life's ventures. That $642K bump in expected career earnings might not mean much to a superstar player, but to the guys making league minimum (65% of the players) it's a huge raise. RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - TJHoushmandzadeh's Shiny Shoes - 03-16-2020 How does the expanded roster work: can you still poach players from other teams' practice squads? RE: Labor Peace until 2030 is Here! - CJD - 03-16-2020 On the one hand, I like having more football and more playoff football. This is good for the NFL and good for the fans. But I'm not sure it's very good for the players... They voted for it, so you can't feel too badly for them, but it would be interesting to see how the vote breakdown went according to position. I bet RBs and LBs hate the new rules. Another week of punishing impacts every year is sure to shorten all of their careers. See post #2. I put an entire article going over all of the changes in the new CBA. I saw no mention of not being able to still sign players from other team's practice squads, so I would interpret that as no change in that rule. I've read previously that teams would be able to send players up or down twice without exposing them to waivers but I'm after more specifics about how this would work. The smart teams will be looking to exploit such rule changes. |
