SHRacerX Mock 8.0: Mic drop draft - SHRacerX - 03-28-2020 I could not have had it come out more perfectly. Took some chances that Claypool would be there at the top of Rd 2, couldn't believe Queen was there, but teams don't place that high an emphasis on LB. I wouldn't change a thing. Your Picks: Round 1 Pick 1: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU (A)- Our leader for the next decade-plus. Welcome home, Joe. Round 2 Pick 9 (CLE): Patrick Queen, ILB, LSU (A): The best athlete the Bengals have ever had at LB, and an alpha-dog mentality to boot. Played his best against the top competition and when it was the biggest stage. Round 3 Pick 1: Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame (A-): My bully WR. Michael Thomas-like, but bigger and faster. Massive catch radius with soft hands. Also a bully in run blocking. Loves that part of the game. Round 3 Pick 10 (CLE): Kyle Dugger, FS/SS, Lenoir-Rhyne (A): I hope someone overdrafts Chinn due to his Senior Bowl and not Dugger. This guy has insane tape. I think his instincts are underrated and his physical traits are insane. I hope he becomes what the Bengals have never had: A Polumalu/Ed Reed-type. He can ease in to the lineup on special teams and have a year to develop behind Bell and Williams, but I bet he takes Williams' spot by mid-season. Round 4 Pick 1: Lucas Niang, OT, TCU (A+): Gets knocked for being more of a RT prospect than a LT. Fine. Quality backup and a year of NFL conditioning will pay dividends down the road. If Hart pans out, maybe he moves inside if Jordan or XSF don't cut the mustard. Round 5 Pick 1: Damien Lewis, OG, LSU (B+): Funny how first pick always rates this selection low. He is a RG-only, but the road-grader this team hasn't had since Bobbie Williams. He will push for starting position in Year 1. It Jordan and XSF slip at all, this guy steals their job for good. Another LSU guy for Burrow. Round 6 Pick 1: Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton (A+): Ok, I am a little biased because of the UD connection, but he will sell tickets and has outstanding wheels and agility for a TE. He isn't as fluid as Eifert, but has the same athleticism and is a "gamer". Don't discount his blocking. He's strong as an ox as well. Round 7 Pick 1: Tipa Galeai, DE/OLB, Utah State (A-): Checkered past really stemming from one incident in 2017 caused him to fall off most boards. A thin freak that can track the QB, but would not be able to set the edge. A true one-trick pass rush specialist but who wants to see this speed demon after dealing with Hubbard and Lawson all game? The answer is no one. I will probably still do a few more drafts because I love this shit (really, 8.0?), but this is exactly what I hope happens. Combined with the FA period, this fills immediate needs and provides quality depth at kep position groups. RE: SHRacerX Mock 8.0: Mic drop draft - Fullrock - 03-28-2020 Which mock draft did you use? Seems very unrealistic. I would guess TDN. RE: SHRacerX Mock 8.0: Mic drop draft - Gdale_Bengal - 03-28-2020 Tdn never has queen available at 33 and Murray and Baun are always off the board. The draft is great I like the picks and where they a e slotted. But Cleveland won’t do business with us. I can't get behind Queen at all. Kid has less than a year of experience as a starter. He literally couldn't win a starting spot at LSU after camp last year and people are expecting him to win a starting spot on an NFL team with OTA's wiped out? Claypool is a beast. Doubt he's there, despite what the sims say, but I'd be ecstatic if he is. I like Dugger more than Chinn, but he's a small school guy making the jump to the NFL that likely won't have the benefit of OTA's. We signed 5 defensive starters to 1 starter on offense, and two of the first four picks in this are going to project defensive players. And S isn't a need at all. Niang in 4 is a steal and takes some of the sting off the Dugger pick, because I'd be ok with just swapping their draft positions. Lewis can't pull and is a fish out of water in a pin and pull run blocking scheme. Have you ever seen Lewis pushed backwards? He is a bulldozer and if you watch the Texas game, he caught some pretty quick stunts. He is a bulldozer and if you watch the Texas game, he caught some pretty quick stunts. Devin White sucked for the Bucs last year with a 50.6 PFF grade. He was a hype job in a terrible LB class. Not only could Queen not beat him out, but he started '19 in a heavy rotation before finally solidifying his spot. His production is terrible. He has 59 solo tackles in his entire college career. By comparison, Murray had 69 just in '19. Bell has a $7.5 mil cap number in the last year of his deal, which isn't bad. Brandon Wilson also established himself as one of the top KR men in the game last year. Are we going to carry 5 S's? If we do, Dugger is unlikely to dress on gameday because they'll dress Bell and Bates as starters, Williams to come off the bench and for big nickel/star duty, and Wilson for returns. I'm not saying Lewis is a bad prospect overall. However, he cannot pull and you have to be able to pull to play G in this offense. There's a lot of these mauler type G's like Lewis, Lemieux, Stenberg, etc that are day 3 prospects because they can't pull and it really limits the number of offenses they can be effective in. And as far as Queen goes, I would imagine 32 teams disagree with you, as do I, but we will see. Queen's play in that National Championship game was outstanding. Showed tremendous sideline-to-sideline range with the deceptively fast Lawrence. As far as having 5 active safeties on game day, I don't think it is such a stretch if they use Williams as more of a nickel backer. Lewis not being able to pull (not agreeing that he is completely incapable of it, as he was simply not asked to do it as a RG) limits where he would play, but I love him as a RG. Funny, you don't think Queen lasts until the 39 overall pick and whatever calls him a huge bust. . I agree more with you, but as a LB there is still a chance. Lots of QB, OT, CB, and WR will go before him. It was a bad class and those two did not stack up to top prospects in previous years. This year, Simmons is a great prospect and Murray is a good one, but Queen is just being pumped up based on a couple of good games and the fact that it's a weak class. Lewis struggles even with second level blocks. He simply doesn't have the traits to be successful in a scheme like ours. By Lance Zierlein NFL Analyst NFL Comparison Thomas Davis Overview While other Tigers received more attention, Queen has some of the most eye-opening tape of the bunch. He plays fast, physical and with impressive field confidence for a one-year starter. His ability to diagnose and flow are both very rapid, and he operates with excellent body control and balance to gobble up runners as an open-field tackler. His inexperience will show itself in taking on blocks and finding optimal pursuit angles, but that will get cleaned up in time. Queen is next up from LSU's linebacker factory, possessing the same three-down ability to hunt, cover and tackle as those before him. He's an early starter with a sky-high ceiling. If this guy is available in Rd 2, I'm taking him. That's kind of like talking about OSU's "C factory" with great pros like Pat Elflein, Billy Price, and Michael Jordan. White isn't a one off, either. His predecessor, Kendall Beckwith, was drafted in the 2nd in 2017 and had a 53 PFF grade as a rookie. He hasn't played since due to injury. Seeing a pattern? He was just starting to get his feel for his team when he was injured. His team was #1 in the NFL against the run. And Kwon Alexander and Deion Jones haven't been busts. Ed Ogeron didn't take over at LSU until '16, meaning those guys weren't developed by their current staff. The current staff has only produced overrated/underwhelming hype jobs. |
