Bengals employee tested positive COVID-19 - pally - 04-07-2020
Bengals Chaplin LaMorris Crawford showed symptoms on Mar 17, went to the hospital on Mar 20. He tested positive from that visit though he only received his results last Friday. The team closed the facility on the 13th. If it had been open to players and coaches can you imagine the potential for spread?
Thank goodness he has now recovered.

First, why's it taking so long for results?
Secondly, if he was showing symptoms on March 17 then he was likely already carrying the virus March 13th when he was on the facility (although anyone contracting it from him would be displaying symptoms by now).

The scariest part of this is that a good percentage of people aren’t affected by this at all and never show any symptoms... but are still able to spread it to others who aren’t as fortunate.

There is a shortage of test kits so they are being rationed. In the labs that do have the test kits available there is a backlog of samples that need to be tested. Roche manufactures test kits used by commercial labs such as LabCorp and they didn’t receive emergency use authorization for their test kit from the FDA until March 13th. I don’t think they shipped any test kits until March 16th. If he was swabbed on March 20th his test was most likely sent to a public health department lab for processing due to the lack of commercial test kits. To give an idea of how that is working, here in Georgia the department of public health as of today has processed 2,720 test while commercial labs have processed 31,065 tests. Total, for the entire state, since this started. And testing availability hasn’t improved much.
