Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - bengals67 - 10-27-2020 I honesty have been stunned by the criticisms of Burrow expressed by a few people in a few threads. I do not pretend to be a football expert like several more knowledgeable people on this board. But having been here since the beginning ( 1967) I have never previously seen a QB with this combination of physical and mental ability. Greg Cook comes the closest. The Brown family stumbled into this kid through blind luck. Are they going to blow this once in several generations opportunity? Exhibit A- if this team does not significantly improve in the second half of season, why in the world would you give Taylor another year during Burrow's rookie contract as opposed to bringing in someone like Bill Cowher? And while Cowher might not be interested, and some of you might name a better candidate, I promise you that a great coach on Cowher's level would die to bring a great staff to Cincinnati and to have a chance to lead a team with a QB like Burrow. RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - fredtoast - 10-27-2020 I like Burrow a lot, but this kind of stuff is over the top. Ken Anderson led the league in passer rating 4 times and won an MVP. He held the NFL single season completion percentage record for over 20 years. Joe Burrow is currently 24th in the league in passer rating. He might some day be as good as Anderson, but it is ridiculous to rank him higher than that right now. Burrows arm is not that strong and he is not especially fast or elusive. I will not criticize his mental acuity, but at the same time I have not seen anything really amazing that makes him look smarter than prior Bengal QBs. He holds onto the ball too long and he has made some stupid passes. Just to repeat. I am not bashing Joe in any way. His pocket awareness and how he moves up and away from pressure is like some of the real greats. Hard to believe but his sack numbers should be way worse. I'll agree he doesn't have a Palmer cannon but he's definitely accurate. And he throws to the right guy and on time more than a rookie should. He's real good man, if you can't see it now you will soon. RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - Sled21 - 10-27-2020 I like the fact that Burrow involves ALL his receivers, and is as likely to throw it to Thomas or Tate as he is to Boyd, Higgins or Green. And, he is using Sample quite a bit as well. It really works on a defense when the QB doesn't focus on one receiver and try to force it to him all the time. Maybe recognizing that Ken Anderson's 15 years of service haven't been immediately surpassed in 2 months by Burrow makes Fred happy. RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - Tony - 10-27-2020 I don't understand how some of you can not see how good Burrow is already. I swear I think some of you want him to fail just so you can be right. The kid is off the charts RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - Tony - 10-27-2020 (10-27-2020, 03:51 PM)fredtoast Wrote: I like Burrow a lot, but this kind of stuff is over the top. This is definitely bashing lol... In Burrows first 7 NFL games, without a preseason, and with an atrocious O line He is : -completing passes at a higher % -throwing for more yards per game -has a lower interception % - And he is getting sacked nearly twice as much As Andy Dalton in his Fluke, best run of his career, season of 2015. (when Mandy had a top 5 Roster of Talent Surrounding him) Lol RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - TheLeonardLeap - 10-27-2020 (10-27-2020, 09:24 PM)Wire22Wire Wrote: In Burrows first 7 NFL games, without a preseason, and with an atrocious O line He is : Ok, and? The title of this thread is about doing "beyond fantastic" not "beyond Dalton". Not even touching the difference between 2015 and 2020 as far as average QB play goes, here's where they are at 7 games.... Burrow 2020: 66.6% Completion 6.9 YPA 9 TD/5 INT 89.4 QB Rating NFL Avg 2020: 65.8% Completion 7.4 YPA 12.6 TD/5.6 INT 94.5 QB Rating He's been quite good for a rookie and there's a ton of things to like about his future as he improves. I can easily see him growing into a Top-10 QB, but as a whole in the NFL this year, he hasn't been "beyond fantastic". He's not even really beyond average statistically. - - - - - - - (Also as a side note, YPG isn't a thing to brag about if you aren't winning and lead the league in attempts, and getting sacked at a higher rate isn't something to list as a positive for a QB. While the OL has been bad, there have been a number of sacks that Burrow has taken because he's a rookie making rookie mistakes, but those will get better with time as well.) RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - QueenCity - 10-27-2020 Clearly the Ravens game is bringing his stats down considerably. Failure to acknowledge that is showing an agenda. He has 2 Steelers and 1 Ravens game left... however he has 4 games in a row where he can go 300+ with multiple TD's against bottom half ball clubs. If you aren't able to tell the difference of QB play between Dalton and Burrow at this point. You should reconsider being a football fan... seriously. Burrow is 3rd in passing in the NFL not bad for a rook RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - Wire22Wire - 10-27-2020 (10-27-2020, 10:43 PM)QueenCity Wrote: Clearly the Ravens game is bringing his stats down considerably. Etc They are all dalton homers and they are embarrassed to be wrong again RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - Nicomo Cosca - 10-27-2020 When can argue over stats all we want, but the fact is this kid is good enough to win a Super Bowl with. And plenty of objective non-Bengals fans believe that. <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - TheLeonardLeap - 10-27-2020 (10-27-2020, 10:43 PM)QueenCity Wrote: Clearly the Ravens game is bringing his stats down considerably. You can't remove games against good teams and then just look at the games against bad teams. That's showing an agenda.. If Burrow doesn't throw an INT and lose a Fumble against the Browns on Sunday, he doesn't need to throw for 300+ yards. Just throwing for a bunch of yardage isn't proof of doing well. Driving 60 yards, turning the ball over, driving another 60 yards and settling for a FG is 120 yards. Sure great, but it's only 3 points. You can't go into the red zone and then turn the ball over. Burrow inside the 20: 56.1% completion, t-2nd most INT Burrow inside the 10: 47.4% completion t-1st most INT I'm not worried about it though, because he's a rookie and rookies make rookie mistakes. He'll get that fixed and he'll be great. It's just a little too early right now to be spending time polishing his knob and fitting him for a yellow jacket, is all. - - - - - - - - - Literally the only people complaining about Burrow v Dalton comparisons right now are the ONLY ones bringing Dalton up in the first place. This is a thread about him doing "beyond fantastic". Nobody in here is saying he isn't playing better than Dalton. Getting murdered behind Mikey Boy and Troy’s dumpster fire of a line makes Joe’s stats look all the better. If the Bengals make a real effort to upgrade the line (3 of 5 positions are replacement level talents, Hopkins is meh) then Joe will be even better. They have to protect him before he goes Carr/Couch/Luck. RE: Burrow is doing beyond fantastic - GreenCornBengal - 10-27-2020 Screw stats. He passes the eye test. He isn’t the Mahommes, Rodgers type QB. He is a Brady, Brees, Manning type of player. God bless him if he becomes as successful as any of those guys but really I don’t need stats to make the judgement call on how great he is. He’s superb so far through half a season. Yes the dumpster fire O-line is 99% the reason Burrow isn't considered a top 5 QB this season. What Burrow is doing with what he's been gifted is absolutely amazing. |
