Interesting pattern with Bengal rookie RBs - fredtoast - 12-06-2020

Corey Dillon holds the Bengal record for rushing yards as a rookie with 1129. he went on to have an amazing career. But look at the next four names on that list;

1124....Jeremy Hill, 2014, Averaged 5.1 ypc and 70.3 ypg as rookie. Only played 4 more years averaging 3.7 per carry and 45.4 per game

1066....Icky Woods, 1988, Averaged 5.3 ypc and and 66.6 ypg as rookie. Only played 3 more years averaging 3.6 ypc and 21.9 ypg

1023....Paul Robinson, 1968, Averaged 4.3 ypc and 73.1 ypg as rookie when he led the league in rushing. Only played 5 more years averaging 3.9 ypc and 29.6 ypg.

988.....Boobie Clark, 1973, Averaged 3.9 ypc and 70.6 ypg as a rookie. Played 7 more years averaging 3.7 ypc and 25.6 ypg.

No other Bengal has rushed for more than 700 yards as a rookie.

Soooo what you’re saying is we shouldn’t have signed Mixon and gone with a rookie RB instead.. right?

Mixon did not have a big rookie season.  626 yards, 3.5 ypc.

So he is immune from the curse.

If you lowered your criteria to 600 yards instead of 700 who else pops onto the list?

All of them had better rushing seasons than their rookie years

Bernard..........695 yds, 4.1 avg (2013) had 730 yds, 4.7 avg in 2015
Mixon.............626 yds, 3.5 avg (2017) had 1168 yds, 4.9 avg in 2018
Archie Griffen..625 yds, 4.6 avg (1976)  had 688 yds, 4.9 avg in 1979
