The Monster DE From Miami - NATI BENGALS - 01-03-2021

Gregory Rousseau

So last year he was apparently in Chase Young territory as a redshirt freshman? Then opted out this year.

People in Miami have compared him to Miami’s own Calais Campbell.

Idk if y’all have noticed but our pass rush sucked this year. I would say this guy is a giant wild card.

If his measurables are elite he could easily end up being a top 10 guy. The top pass rusher in the draft is usually a highly sought after commodity.

I don’t know jack shit about this guy. But boy am I intrigued. Anybody have any insight on him?

He’s not in Chase Young territory. If he was he’d be a consensus top 5 pick, even with only the single year.

He appears to be a potential stud and may be a great DE. The issue at #5 for us is he only has one year of tape albeit impressive. It would make him a risky pick, but the combine may sky rocket or solidify him as top pass rusher in the draft. There is no doubt we need a stud at DE, a disruptor who can also win the LOS versus the run.

If he is our guy, then if no trade back available, do we take the risk? That is the problem with the draft, a huge crap shoot. His background and interview could also play a role in his draft value. Has he neem in any trouble? Any red flags at all?

Chase Young was #1 with 16.5 sacks last year.

Rousseau was #2 with 15.5.

So at least when it comes to the number of sacks last year in CFB. They are in the same territory.

He is an intriguing pick for us at #5, again assuming he is there. The Falcons need defensive players and they draft ahead of us so I could see him being gone, I can also see him last until 1st round picks 12 to 15.

The combine will be a key for his draft stock. I just have a hunch he measurables will be great and he had a year off to heal his body plus he is very young and will only get stronger.

I’m aware of his stats. He’s still not in the same conversation as Chase Young. If he was he’d be a consensus top pick, and would be talked about as the best non-QB in the draft along with Sewell.

He’s really lanky and is sort of a pass rush specialist. His technique or body movement on the field can be alarming - I don’t think he is the type of player we need right now even if the potential is there.

This Guy Rousseau as of now sounds like  a luxury pick if we had  two 1st rounders

The thing about Rousseau is most of his sacks came with him lined up inside instead of on the edge.  Most of the sacks he did get off the edge he was the second or third man in on.  He might have to bulk up and become a 3T or 5T in the NFL.  If he stays as an edge, I see him as a Michael Johnson type who will be solid against the run, but have to kick inside on passing downs to get any real pass rush.

RE: The Monster DE From Miami - PikesPeakUC - 01-03-2021

Seems like Rousseau is kind of getting the benefit of being the best pass rusher in a so-so class. I don't think he's anywhere as polished as Chase Young, though. Obviously we need more people to get after the QB, but it also feels like we do a decent job finding DE's in the middle rounds.

RE: The Monster DE From Miami - Gdale_Bengal - 01-03-2021

I’ve watched some tape, but his big games came against the worst guard play you will ever see in college. Florida state game for example, he got 4 sacks but tge guard play on that team was really bad.

Kinda on the kwity train as he is way less raw.

RE: The Monster DE From Miami - Bilbo Saggins - 01-03-2021

He reminds me of that guy who fell to the Raiders.  2nd round kind of guy imo.

He has a lot of room to grow. A team may take him early and bank on his pay offs in a year or 2. Not great in the first but you never know

Are we set at #5? Or can we drop to 6

Think it’s 5 for sure.

From a source someone posted on the main forum they are planning to build the line through FA and drafting a real play maker.

So think on that. It may not matter if Sewell or Rousseau is there or not, they are strongly looking at Pitts, Smith, Chase, and Waddle at 5.

I could definitely see that. Paye got to put more tape out this year while Rousseau was idle. I'm not even sure there's a Top 10 pass rusher this year. Could be more of a late first into the second type of draft, which is crazy considering the premium that pass rushing brings with it.

RE: The Monster DE From Miami - Gdale_Bengal - 01-03-2021

So like a month or so ago I listened to a show that brought up kwity’s production. They said he was #1 in pressures and only played in like 5 games at the time. The next guy had like 20 fewer pressures and played 8 or so games. Can’t remember his sack total but it wasn’t high I think.

I don’t really know what that means, but you have to hope that with the refinement the nfl brings, his pressures will turn into sacks. I think I’d rather take him before Rousseau assuming I needed that impact player at edge right away.

I see he was #1 on Bruce Feldman's freaks list. I love getting guys on the freaks list.

But on the other hand his name is Quity... Football names matter sometimes. Kwity the quiter scares me.

Rashan Gary was a freak athlete from Michigan whose production never matched physical talent and he has been underwhelming in the NFL. I am not betting on upside a 5th overall, I will take a slightly lower ceiling player with a higher floor over reaching for a need that is boom or bust. I actually think the pass rusher we can get in the 2nd won't be very different than the one we can get at 5.

RE: The Monster DE From Miami - ochocincos - 01-04-2021

Rousseau wins with speed and length, but he's not fully developed, especially against the run.
That's one big thing that sets him apart from the Bosas and Young IMO.
I would be fine with him at 5 as long as the Bengals re-signed Lawson, as it would allow Rousseau to be used as a pass rushing specialist while bulking up and improving his run defense.
