Eugenio Suarez over the last three seasons - Forever Spinning Vinyl - 09-29-2021

Stats current through 2 plate appearances of the White Sox game
2019
575 AB - 662 PA - .271 avg - 83 singles - 22 doubles - 2 triples - 49 HR - 73 XBH - 103 RBI - 70 BB - 189 K - 6 SF - 11 HBP - 12 GIDP

2020-2021 combined
691 AB - 790 PA - .196 avg - 61 singles - 29 doubles - 0 triples - 45 HR - 74 XBH - 115 RBI - 84 BB - 236 K - 6 SF - 9 HBP - 19 GIDP

Hmmmmm. Swing for the fences much? In 116 more at bats over the last two seasons than in 2019, he hit 22 less singles and dropped a bit in HRs. Everything else is a pretty much a wash, even the strikeouts.

2019 strikeouts in 28.5% of his plate appearances
2020-21 29.8%

Is he out of his funk or is he a lost cause? Has September shown us the new/old Eugenio Suarez? Do the Reds pull the plug and move on?

I think it is a mixture of that shoulder injury and those 49 HR in the super juiced ball year making him enamored with swinging for the fences.

The former might be permanent, and the latter hasn't been cured for a couple years now so it's likely permanent too. He'll turn 30 next season so unlikely to hugely turn it around.

Zero chance the Reds eat $35.9m and cut him, though. I think he's going to be around for at least 1 more year if not 2 before moving on is even realistically entertained (if it ever is with this FO).
