We're the only team in the draft... - wcu - 03-16-2022 We're the only team in the draft that has our original draft pick in each round without having gained a pick from another team. I'm not saying that's good or bad, I just think that's some interesting insight into how the Bengals do things differently. You're right! NFL.com left off Round 7 (Pick 226 from Giants)! Still, we're one of the very few with all of our original picks. RE: We're the only team in the draft... - Soonerpeace - 03-16-2022 I know 1000% that Taylor does not like to give up picks. He believes in his own evaluation certainly on the offensive side and Lou’s on the defensive side. Duke and his staff do a great job at bringing them to them and Zac really includes the position coaches so they have skins in it. He’s good about that. He was behind TAMU recruiting Manziel. He discovered Desmond Ritter for the Bearcats. He had Higgins as much higher. Lou on the other side was huge in the FA defensive players last year and Logan Wilson in the draft. Ossai is going to shock a bunch. He’s really good. RE: We're the only team in the draft... - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 03-16-2022 I hope that changes this year. I mean, the chances all 7 guys make the team is pretty slim. I would not mind sacrificing a day 3 pick to get a guy who could really help us. Maybe even the 3rd. But it would have to be for a stud. Or maybe move up in the draft for Penning or Linderbaum if opportunity strikes. RE: We're the only team in the draft... - Bengalpool - 03-16-2022 That's a cool little fun fact. Interesting indeed. I wouldn't mind joining the trend by giving a late rounder up for Collins though. Nailing this draft will set them up for a long time with this core RE: We're the only team in the draft... - wcu - 03-16-2022 (03-16-2022, 04:38 PM)Big_Ern Wrote: Nailing this draft will set them up for a long time with this core I was thinking about that the other day. This draft could very well be the difference between us being pretty good for the next few seasons and us being THE team in the AFC for the foreseeable future. RE: We're the only team in the draft... - BrownAssClown - 03-16-2022 Nice stat but there's a lot o time to change that between now and the draft and even time to do some tradin' when the draft is in progress. It will be interesting to see if the Bengals play it out the way it is and stand pat with their picks. The draft is a much bigger crapshoot than the "experts" want to admit. Every year there are first round picks that bust and a few very good players that every team passes over until late in the draft. The best way to improve your chances of getting good players is to have more picks. Rolan went down to Louisville to see Ridder. Two weeks later, he took a second trip. This time, Rolan brought Taylor with him. Meanwhile on the picks front, the Rams GM wore a "**** them picks" shirt to their Super Bowl parade. — Kara Henderson Snead (@KaraHenderson) February 16, 2022 Picks are nice. High quality proven NFL players are better because there's never a guarantee that any of those picks will develop to be any good. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase are obviously big franchise changing picks, but they were preceded by Jonah Williams, Billy Price, John Ross, William Jackson, Cedric Ogbuehi, Darqueze Dennard, Tyler Eifert, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Kevin Zeitler before you got another big positive franchise-changing 1st round hit in AJ Green. He had to okay the scholarship and determine his abilities. Also almost all those guys weren’t drafted by Taylor. If you look at the offensive draftees Taylor has been bullseye. They needed a tackle and Williams wasn’t a home run but pretty good. Regardless I 1000% know he likes to keep his draft choices. With the salary cap you need your first few drafted players to be successful. Think we could get decent value trading out of 31 into the 2nd round without having much drop off in talent available. Wouldn’t be opposed to trading down twice before we pick down into the late 40’s-50’s if we can add a couple of extra picks in the first 100-120 picks. I just think people tend to overvalue picks at times. (Also I wish I could remove the Tuberville/Taylor/etc UC era from existence. Lol) |
