The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - Emeritus - 02-16-2023 The age of the 6'6 imposing rushers will always be around the game. Its the athletic guys what used to be. classified as linebackers frame is what I believe the league is moving towards. Its the Micha Parson types that are being studied for fits in my honest opinion. Its not about your defensive brand or philosophy but how you'll incorporate that type of talent in your defense. So some guys that I believe fit this mold late first Nolan Smith EDGE Georgia https://youtu.be/QzZAiytc660 Felix Anudike Uzomah Edge Kansas State https://youtu.be/30iGvc_k5-4 Will McDonald Edge Kansas State https://youtu.be/h6M4WR4iH-U BJ Ojulari Edge LSU https://youtu.be/7d66s8yCx4c Byron Young Edge Tennessee https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRn8B45o/ Every one of these guys would be great to begin our movement in this direction. I'm likely missing a few but off top this is my starting point. This was actually attempted in Cincinnati under ML the defensive guy that he was when he drafted Dontay Moch. It just didn't work at the time. RE: The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - puddycat - 02-17-2023 IMO we're committed to the DEs we have, and Lou has shown that he is willing for DL to drop into coverage. We need the ability to dial up pressure from other spots. Nick Herbig LB Wisconsin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAwwZu7aVB8 Ivan Pace Jr. LB Cincinnati https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x1wIzNm2Kw RE: The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - SHRacerX - 02-18-2023 (02-17-2023, 06:53 PM)puddycat Wrote: IMO we're committed to the DEs we have, and Lou has shown that he is willing for DL to drop into coverage. I have no idea where he will end up going, but I would like to think the recent success of the UC guys in the league as rookies will help. I like him and Uzomah. Smith is a 3-4 LB as is Herbig IMO, both mostly rushing from the edge and small for that job in the NFL, IMO. Pace is probably the hardest hitter in the draft, but I dont think he can cover me in pass defense. RE: The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - puddycat - 02-19-2023 I also like Tuli Tuapolotu; he's another DE/DT hybrid who might be around late round 2, but just not sure how he'll fit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7kRtPxXa3E RE: The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 02-21-2023 (02-19-2023, 04:06 PM)puddycat Wrote: I also like Tuli Tuapolotu; he's another DE/DT hybrid who might be around late round 2, but just not sure how he'll fit. A hybrid guy like Tuli, or Van Ness from Iowa (Rd1) or Keion White from Georgia Tech (Rd 2) would simple take Gunter's spot on the roster. Leaving us with Hendrickson/Hubbard/Ossai & Sample at DE. And coukd hopefully augment the inside pass rush while allowing us to keep 3 NT types on the roster (Reader, Tupou, Tufele) and not give up on Carter, eho inproved late on. RE: The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - ochocincos - 02-22-2023 I'm ok with adding an edge rusher, but I'd actually prefer an interior pass rusher. I don't know if you can say someone who is ~250 lbs and 6'3" - 6'4" are "untraditional" though. Those measurements have always been pretty common in the league. The Bengals just traditionally always chose to go the Carlos Dunlap-style for decades. Look at the two main edge rushers from IND from the early 2000's for an example: Robert Mathis - 6'2" 245 lb Dwight Freeney - 6'1" 268 lb RE: The untraditional Edge Rushers I like - ochocincos - 02-22-2023 (02-19-2023, 04:06 PM)puddycat Wrote: I also like Tuli Tuapolotu; he's another DE/DT hybrid who might be around late round 2, but just not sure how he'll fit. I think Tuipulotu has the potential to be a 1st rounder, especially if he performs well in Combine/Pro Day drills. You don't have 13.5 sacks and 22.0 TFLs in a single season in a Power 5 conference without some talent. Hoping he drops to Rd 2 might be far more of a hope than a reality. I think he is likely in the late 30's to 40's. I should have clarified...dropping to when the Bengals pick in the 2nd round is what I meant. If Bengals like him and want him, they might have to use Pick 28 to get him, or possibly trade back some. |
