We likely lose Boyd. Would people be good with drafting Jaxon?

RE: Jaxon Smith Njigba - Jpoore - 04-20-2023

Depends what we do. If we trade Boyd for a 3? Absolutely. 99.9% chance he ain’t there though

Yeah, I would take JSN no problem. Damn good WR and he can block a bit unlike Kincaid who is a WR masquerading as a TE.

RE: Jaxon Smith Njigba - Stewy - 04-20-2023

Sure and I'd take Will Anderson too at 28, but neither will be there.

RE: Jaxon Smith Njigba - ochocincos - 04-20-2023

If looking for a slot replacement for Boyd, absolutely have to consider it if he somehow made it there.
I like Quentin Johnston as a Higgins replacement.

RE: Jaxon Smith Njigba - Whatever - 04-20-2023

If he falls that far, I'd take him over anybody but Robinson.

RE: Jaxon Smith Njigba - Schmitbuck - 04-20-2023

I'd definitely take him at 28, but he'll be gone in the top 15.

A 1st round pick is highly paid. We can't afford Chase, Higgins (new contract) and another WR.

Boyd is highly paid for a #3 WR also, I would rather us draft Boyd's replacement in round 3 or 4 and then trade Boyd and his 10.3 million salary.
Tyler Boyd WR $8,450,000 $1,400,000 $250,000 - $200,000 - - ($1,400,000) $10,300,000

We would have 1.4 million in cap space, but save 8.9 million for 2023. Our entire draft pool projection is under 5 million, so a trade of Boyd would net us 3.5 million and 7 new players.

Boyd has been great, but he is just not worth his contract in 2023 in my humble opinion.

Not really highly paid when comparing to veterans.
Devonte Wyatt, last year's 28th pick, signed a 4-year, $12.86 mill deal.
That's an APY of just $3.2 mill.
Not too bad for someone who will get 75-100 targets a season as 3rd option in this offense.
By the time that player would be ready for a new contract, Higgins will probably be ending his next contract.

Yep, that is why it would actually be a bargain if we somehow got Bijan Robinson, a Corner or Darnell Wright in the 1st round.

Even with WR, if the guy is instantly pretty damn good that is one heck of a bargain. But like you said, JSN fits more as the Boyd
replacement anyways and Johnston is more of the Tee replacement. Both will probably be gone though, teams favor WR's early more
than TE's too which makes it entirely possible one of the top 3 or 4 TE's is there at 60 just the same.

I'm sure the Bengals thought this same way about Frank Ragnow making it to 21st pick in 2018.
Don't gamble if you really like a guy.
Know other teams' needs and try to trade up some if you have to in order to get your guy.

Good point Ocho, that one hurt, still a bit miffed with the Lions for that.  Whatever

How far would you trade up to get Jaxon?
