Andy's Contract Incentives - kdgjr - 12-14-2015

This is NOT an Andy thread. It's a contract thread.

Anyone know how his injury affects his contact incentives?

http://www.cincyjungle.com/2015/12/2/9836498/reviewing-andy-daltons-postseason-contract-incentives-and-other-nfl

That article spells them out pretty clearly.

Are they all off the table at this point? He will have played 80% of the snaps, right? If the record now is good enough to get them in the playoffs, does the Brown family pay him?

Any ideas?

Why would they pay him for things he never accomplished?
I like AD, but MB honors contracts (actual contract) for guys like Leon Hall when he could have said no based on Hall's level of play. I say in this situation, it sucks for AD, but every dime we spend in 2015 hurts us in 2016 so no, I would not pay him unless he hits the incentive, close is just not good enough.

What would be really interesting is...say McCarron takes the team to the AFC Title Game. Does Dalton get cut?

Why would we cut a top 5 to 10 QB in the NFL based on a guy with 3 to 5 starts?

LOL

RE: Andy's Contract Incentives - corpjet - 12-14-2015

I am sure the contract incentives are the least of his worries, heck he would probably pay a million dollars right now to not have a fractured thumb.

Nothing but crazy talk right there, brah.

Nope He gets a pay raise though... and mccarron then has trade value

It's simple:

If they get a bye he will get a $1,000,000 bonus for each year the rest of his contract, as he played 80% of offensive snaps and they will reach the divisional round of the playoffs.

If they do not get a bye, then he would have to play at least 80% of the snaps in the wild card game and win.

same goes for each round.

he has to playu 80% each game or just total on the season?

So he did his part by playing in 80% of the snaps and now his bonuses are in the hands of McCarron?

RE: Andy's Contract Incentives - ItsOdellThurman - 12-14-2015

I don't want Dalton to get cut. Don't get me wrong.

There's a sector of our fan base that hopes somehow, McCarron wins a playoff game, so they can discuss it.

Sadly, this is what some of our fanbase has wanted all along. They don't like our starter, even if he was on an MVP caliber type run. Probably would have won that playoff game too.

Ask OSU fans how that works. Just because a guy can ride the hot hand into the playoff doesn't make him the best long term solution.

This team prides itself on having very little dead money on the payroll. Cutting Dalton (which has 0% of happening) would result in $7.2 million of dead money.

RE: Andy's Contract Incentives - WeezyBengal - 12-14-2015

He missed out on 5 million dollars because he wont play 80% of the snaps, which sucks for him.

With only three games left he has played 80% of snaps this season, even with the snaps he will miss in the next three games, if they get the bye and by default make it to the divisional round then he will get the one million dollar bonus for the rest of the contract.

So yes, in a way A.J. McCarron and the rest of the teams performance the remainder of the season will determine if the team gets a bye, and by default if Andy gets that bonus.

If they don't get the bye then he will have to play 80% of the snaps in the one wild card game and win to get the bonus.

His first bonus is a $1,000,000 for the rest of the contract if they make the divisional round of the playoffs. He has played 80% of snaps on the season, even with the 3 games left, so if they get a bye he will qualify and get the bonus.

If they do not get the bye, he will have to play 80% of the one wild card playoff game and win to qualify for the bonus.

If he misses the last 3 games then he will only play around 76% of the snaps. He will have played in 13 of the 17 games. He will miss out on the bonus.

Why would you trade McCarron?  He is a very cost efficient backup and the odds are that at some point in Dalton's career, the backup is going to need to play again.

Sorry this is wrong, first they only play 16 games not 17 as each team has a bye week. Second, the bonus is calculated per snaps not games played. Andy has currently played 789 offensive snaps which is 98.5%. That is a 60.6 snap per game average, if AJ averages that the remaining 3 games he would of played 181.8 out of 970.8 snaps, which means if Andy does not take another snap in the regular season he would still have played 81.3% of snaps.

So yes, if they get the bye he still qualifies for the $1,000,000 bonus for reaching the divisional round of the playoffs.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts

If they do no get a bye he will have to play 80% of snaps in the wild card game and win to get it.

If he plays 80% of the divisional game and wins making to the AFC Championship game he gets another $500,000 bonus, and more for the Super Bowl.

All Andy's bonus possibilities are still in play.
