Met A Hero Yesterday! - BFritz21 - 07-07-2024

Yesterday, I was at the pool and some friends said that were going to Wings & Rings and asked me if I wanted to join. I said ok because I really didn't feel like eating there and it only takes me a few minutes to get to Wings & Rings. Even so, I got there after everyone else and the hostess says that they're waiting for me at the long table of ten by the bathroom, so I roll back and sit at on the end of the table next to the restroom.

This guy was walking past with an Army jacket and hat on, but he looked old and was walking very slow and unstable, which I didn't want to stop him if he it was an emergency or anything.

When he comes out, I tell him thanks for his service, asked him where he served, and other things just about his life. All the adults at the table also tell him thanks for his service and he walks away.

A lady walks over and tells me thanks for saying those things to him and being nice to him because he has Alzheimer's and a bunch of other problems because he's 98!

I replied that it was my pleasure and that she's lucky that he's her dad, but I mention how I wish I had gotten a selfie, which she says that he went outside and was on his way to the car but she could go get him if I really wanted a selfie, which I obviously said yes.

She walks out to get him but then I roll over to the door so he won't have to walk anywhere, and we get a selfie:

Thank you to anyone on here that served or anyone that has a relative that served, and thanks to all the service members that are keeping us safe today!

One of the things my old man taught me was respect for others, especially the people that came before me and did honorable things.

I'm thankful that he did!

Thanks!
