As we get closer… - Soonerpeace - 08-13-2024

My predictions…
1. 12-5
2. Joey B has an MVP type of year. Not predicting one but certainly in the discussion
3. Tee Higgins has his best year
4. Jamar Chase has a solid year
5. Orlando Brown has his best year
6. The OL is top 15 in PFF
7. Mike Gesicki after a slow start comes on strong the last half of the season.
8. The offense has its best yards per play number in Taylor’s career
9. Our linebackers carry the defense.
10. Myles Murphy emerges.
11. Baltimore and Cincy play in the AFC Championship (Cincy wins KC injury luck runs out)
12. SF vs Cincy in SB
13. Isovias, Irwin, and Burton have a fierce battle as #3 receiver.
14. The right side of the line finally elevates us to success in goal line and short yardage.
15. The defense is average but opportunistic with turnovers and we lead the league in TO margin.

Doesn't sound that farfetched to me.

I'd add C. Brown has a breakout season.

I will add, Ja'Marr Chase has the best season of any WR and it ups his price to where we have to pay him more than JJ.

We play the Detriot Lions in the Super Bowl.

Agree with a lot of the other predictions, also think Joe Burrow has a real chance to win MVP this year.

I had Detroit lol and changed it right before posting.

I think Moss gets 65% of the snaps but I think Brown has some explosive plays

Right

I'm not saying Brown rewrites the record books stats wise. But I feel his homerun ability will come through.

Moss looked like he had a big run yesterday

I dont think Chase needs the best season of any WR to get paid more than JJ.

It hasn't changed since the thread I made back in May... I'm still worried about the Defensive Tackle room.

He needs by far the best year of his career.

AJ Brown put up more yards than Chase's career high in back-to-back seasons and still fell short of Jefferson by $3m/yr.
St Brown was a 1st Team All-Pro and beat Chase's career best season and still fell short of Jefferson by $5m/yr.

Chase needs 1,700+ yards and a 1st Team All-Pro this year if he wants to be in the Jefferson pay conversation.

Deeper dive tells another story… Last 3 years

Brown 47 games 257 receptions 3821 yards 23 TD
Chase 45 games 268 receptions 3717 yards 29 TD

Still, I think he has the best season. So hoping we can get his deal done before it starts.

And I think he will do just that.

Good stuff Soonerpeace. 6 more TD's in 2 less games matters.

Brown 47 games 257 receptions  2952 yards 23 TD
Chase 45 games 268 receptions 3717 yards 29 TD

Last 3 years according to your "deeper dive"
Cooper Kupp: 279 receptions / 3,496 yards / 27 TD ... 1x Pro Bowl / 1x 1st Team All-Pro / 3rd place MVP finish / 1x OPOY

More realistic shallower dive of "what have you done lately" last 2 years

Brown: 198 receptions / 2,952 yards / 18 TD ... 2x Pro Bowl / 2x 2nd Team All-Pro / 11th place OPOY finish / 9th place MVP finish
Chase: 187 receptions / 2,262 yards / 16 TD ... 2x Pro Bowl
Kupp: 134 receptions / 1,549 yards / 11 TD

Players aren't getting paid for what they did 3 years ago if what they've done the last 2 years are a completely different story. Otherwise there'd be people saying Cooper Kupp needs to be given more money than Chase and Jefferson.

Brown got out from under Tannehill (who is currently no longer in the league) and beat Chase's career high in two straight years. Now do I think that Brown's ceiling is better than Chase's? No, I don't. Doesn't change the fact that if he wants to be paid like Jefferson (or better) Chase needs to stop being about knowing his potential and more about actually SHOWING that high ceiling.

Okay let’s go 2 years

Brown 34 games 194 receptions 2952 yards 18 TD
Chase 28 games 187 receptions 2262 yards 16 TD

So by average per game Chase easily does better except in yards.

Certainly A J Brown’s stats are close to Chase but it’s a real nothing burger discussion. A J is not Chase. But Chase is more valuable to his team than A J Brown. There’s a lot to factor in.

"Player A hasn't been as healthy as Player B, so Player A should get more money!"

Yeah, that's not ass-backward logic at all.

Not even comparable with Kupp.  He signed his deal at age 28 and had only 2 1000 yard seasons at that point.  In fact, he still only has two 1k seasons in his career.  Way different than guys in their primes

RE: As we get closer… - BengalBob - 08-14-2024

All of this back and forth about stats is meaningless. It's all about the market. The market says Chase will be the highest-paid WR until the next guy comes along.

Chase is a hell of a lot more valuable to the Bengals than A J Brown is to the Eagles. It’s not just about stats. If you don’t recognize that Chase is a top 5 receiver I can’t help you. Because of his contract timeline he’s going to warrant JJ money.

I mean some people have zero common sense or practicality. They make it to hard. It’s not 100% measurable
