The rookie we haven't talked about - pally - 09-30-2024 Can we give a shout-out to rookie punter Ryan Rehkow? We have been longing for a punter that could change the field and Ryan has done exactly that. Punting Ave 58.4 yards leads the league by 6 yards Net Yards 49.7 leads the league by 2.5 yards Brad Robbins should nurse that injury for as long as he can because he isn't coming back to the 53 anytime soon RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - masonbengals fan - 09-30-2024 Our kicking game is in good hands. RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - reuben.ahmed - 09-30-2024 We do not need B. Robbins no mo. The 63 yarder had only a 2-yard return. And the 50-yard punt landed at the 7-yard line and was returned only to the 8-yard line. IIRC, Tycen Anderson was in on both of those tackles: great coverage by our punt team. RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - reuben.ahmed - 09-30-2024 He is not only booming the punts, they appear to have massive hang time as well. RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - WeezyBengal - 09-30-2024 If we give the position back to Robbins when he comes back then itll tell you everything you need to know about this organization. Of all the things that we think are certainties, it would make zero sense to make Robbins the punter, other than if they think he'd be significantly cheaper. This team would not win a game with him punting. RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - CJD - 09-30-2024 I was so stoked when we signed him in the off season. In college he had an absolute cannon of a leg. He was 3rd in college football in average yards per punt at 48.3. The thing that was concerning about him was his net yards per punt were all the way down at 38th at 41.1. So he was losing 7.2 yards on average to returns. This could be due to the team around him. If his coverage team was bad, then that will exascerbate that problem and, when I watched him punt, the ball seemed to have a fine hang time. These weren't Dru Chrisman style bullet punts. So I was excited to see him and McNamara compete with Robbins in the pre-season. I was surprised when they cut McNamara before the games even started. In the pre-season games, Rehkow's leg strength was apparent, but he worried me with his touchbacks. And, in admittedly limited play, Robbins looked about as good as him. That concerned me because, knowing the Bengals, I knew they'd keep Robbins if he and Rehkow were close. So, when Robbins was injured, I felt bad but I was kind of happy that Rehkow was going to get his chance and, wow, he has delivered. Robbins is essentially going to lose his job due to injury, which never feels good, but I'm hoping that we find a space for him on the PS as an emergency punter, or I hope he finds a spot on another team. The "this guy shouldn't lose the job because he was hurt" mentality of thinking. It has nothing to do with loyalty because everyone wanted a new punter because Robbins sucked last year. The only reason Robbins was still on the team is because he stepped up some in training camp and preseason. But now it is not even close Rehkow's PRODUCTION is what won him the job. Robbins can kick rocks he had all last season to improve. Speaking of Tycen I want to see him getting snaps in place of Stone. Stone has not made a play this year on a deep pass he had one half ass tackle is his only production I have noticed. Hubbard did have a good game yesterday though: pass rush needs work, but he pushed the pocket constantly and was really good in run D. RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - TecmoBengals - 09-30-2024 Best Bengal to rep #8 since Jeff Blake? But he can flip the field RE: The rookie we haven't talked about - Sled21 - 09-30-2024 One thing any of you failed to mention. A punter has more than one job. McPherson has uncharacteristically missed a PAT and a Field Goal so far this year, with the new punter being his holder. If he can't get that right, Robbins might be right back out there. I've not read up on the missed McPherson kicks. Do we know if it was attributed to a bad hold? |
