Dax Hill ACL - lone bengal - 10-07-2024

Ian Rapport just tweeted the fear is Dax tore his ACL. It’s sucks thought Dax was playing well in coverage and can’t believe he actually made the transition to outside CB. Worst part is the following season is usally rough for a CB coming off an ACL then you at his option year.

We mishandled the kid coaching-wise in my opinion.

Two years wasted at safety then probably looking at year 4 struggling coming off an ACL at corner then up against his 5th year option. Turner is a 2nd round pick in year 2 so we need him to step up. We desperately need to restock by having some draft picks pan out. I’m glad Mims and ALT are contributing year 1 and hope to god Murphy will pan out.

They have to make the decision on 5th year option this coming offseason.

Think you have no choice but to decline even with the generally solid return-rate from ACLs these days. 4.5 games at a new position on a terrible D isn't enough to commit $11.8m guaranteed (the basic 5th year option, because I don't think he meets playing time criteria for the next tier) to him for year 5. Plus hopefully we have a new DC by then and who knows if he'll fit the new guy's system.

If you don't pick it up, you risk having to pay (a lot) more if Hill really steps it up next year once he's healthy.
If you do pick it up, you risk overpaying if he doesn't perform well.

I think at this point, he was on the right track to be an impactful player based on what he showed through 5 games, but the risk isn't worth it at this time.
If he plays well next year, either tag him or try to sign him to a new deal.
If he doesn't, Bengals may save themselves some $$.

Agree , the future of the secondary slowly becoming a nightmare. Cam Britt -Taylor also due for a big payday and he’s been erratic at times. Hilton contract up soon and no slot successor on the roster. At strong safety Bell one year deal and looks washed and they hate Battle now lol. Stone 2 year deal and he hasn’t looked good.

Yup, if he's absolutely amazing in 2025, $19-19.5m/yr is #6-#11 CB money... or $7.5-8m more than you'd have to pay for the 5th option anyway.

If he's bad in 2025, you'd still on the hook for $11.8m which would currently be the #17th highest paid CB going by yearly average.

I would much rather spend extra money to have a good CB than waste a ton of money paying a bad CB like he was good. Not accounting for the fact that even if he's bad, he's probably still going to start if he's making $11.8m. The Bengals don't pay big money to guys to sit on the bench. If they're paid, they're playing even if they aren't good (*cough*Jonah*cough*).

The TV analyst said Dax Hill had been the Bengals most reliable CB this season. This is a tough, tough loss.

The Bengals have to decide if they are going to try and salvage the season or rebuild. If salvage-the-season mode, they can still trade for DL and CB. If rebuild mode, then can trade assets. However, they probably don't know what to do and so will stay frozen on the railroad tracks until the train (trade deadline) arrives.

RE: Dax Hill ACL - jj22 - 10-07-2024

It happened early October. Still enough time to be ready for the start of 2025. Injuries like these that may happen later in the month and through January will start to effect next offseason/season. Early October, and there's time.

It was good to see Mims return. Kinda softened the blow of losing Hill.

Heard this, too bad, looked like Dax was coming around at boundary Corner. Need DJ Turner to really step up and play well.

RE: Dax Hill ACL - pally - 10-07-2024

the team confirms the ACL tear

RE: Dax Hill ACL - Nepa - 10-07-2024

What the play that caused the injury?

IMO He should have been the CB and CTB the Safety.

WTS, terrible news. D was holding its own until he went down yesterday, then it went to shit.

Bring back Eli Apple

It was the play where CTB made the pass breakup. Great "Safety play" by him.

RE: Dax Hill ACL - NUGDUKWE - 10-07-2024

As far as I'm concerned Dax is a bust. I get that he was doing.well in coverage but dude can't tackle. This game he actually for once this season was coming in on run support and he tears his ACL. I get that he will be on this team next year but you can't pick up his 5th year option and you still have to devote either a high pick or a FA to that position. The Bengals plan of tagging guys we plan to let go while drafting a replacement has worked out splendidly.

We need a bunch of guys to step up on this D

RE: Dax Hill ACL - J24 - 10-07-2024

Can we designate Hill as a safety and not a CB for his 5th year option?

No doubt. At least the DL is looking better, but right when that happens our Corners start going down lol
