Hamilton Co. to consider dome for Paycor - SunsetBengal - 10-16-2024

They are investigating the cost of putting a dome over Paycor Stadium. Not sure how I feel about a dome in the AFCN, but if they want it, I'll learn to live with it.

Quote:As the Bengals' lease at Paycor Stadium inches toward a conclusion, the powers-that-be in and around Cincinnati are considering different options for moving forward.

Via the Cincinnati Business Courier, Hamilton County will "look at how much it will cost and the logistics" of adding a dome to the venue.

The thinking is that a roof will allow the stadium to be used in the winter months.

The Cincinnati Enquirer has quotes from Hamilton County Board of Commissioners President Alicia Reece, who offers a pragmatic take on the issue of adding a lid to the stadium.

"People have been asking us about a dome," Reece said. "We don't want somebody sitting here in 20 years asking, 'Why in the world didn't they think about it?' Because I've been thinking the same thing, 'Why didn't these guys get a dome last time?'"

Domes definitely increase revenue opportunities, eliminating weather as a factor in scheduling events.

I was a staunch advocate when they built the stadium that they should have added the dome then. The chances of Cincy hosting a Superbowl is slim, but that chance drops to zero without the dome.

A dome should definitely be an option because it would garner more events year around.

Yeah, I think that is their main point of focus, being able to capitalize with revenue from events year round.

I have said forever they need a dome. I was a decades long season ticket holder. It was a great experience unless it was 90 degrees or 20 degrees with high winds.

It will enhance the fans experience and help our great QB and great kicker with no wind.

Financially, it will make the stadium available year-round for not only Super Bowls, but NCAA championships final fours as well. To me, it is a no brainer.

Yeah, that was my first thought. I don't wanna be a fan of a whimpy dome team...

I sat in 96 degree heat and 10 degree cold, but hands down the absolute worst weather for watching a game is rain.  Especially a cold rain.  The Stealers playoff game in '16 was the absolute worst.  It was 42 degrees or something and poured at times.  Somehow there was a gap in the rain jacket I was wearing, and the gap formed a bit of a trough that was, unbeknownst to me, gathering rain water.  When there was some reason to cheer my hands went up and all that cold water was funneled inside my jacket, soaking the fleece I was wearing.

I wish they'd built the damn dome on day 1, but since I'm no longer a STH, I won't lose sleep one way or the other.

As a current season ticket member who plans on being one for at least another 20-30 years.... build the dome!

Makes too much sense.... anyone who thinks football should only be played outside at this point is likely watching TV from the nursing home.

No disrespect in that but the younger people don't care.

Probably would not hurt Money Mac's feelings much.

Retractable I assume. Look how much Indy gets, but their stadium looks like it’s way nicer and more attractive for other events.

The crippled section is covered, so I really didn't mind, but I can see your point.

In the older days, I would have been against it just because smashmouth football seems so much more real and physical outdoors, but, with how pass first we are with Burrow, give Burrow the best conditions to succeed.

I doubt we'll ever be chosen to host a Super Bowl, but I like the idea of other events being able to be hosted too.

That's what I was thinking and nobody had answered.

I wouldn't mind a dome but a retractable roof is a must IMCO because the feeling and overall atmosphere is just so much better when you're out in the fresh air and can see the downtown buildings and then out over into Northern Kentucky.

I'm sure I'm missing one or 2, but how many football stadiums built as an outdoor venue later had a roof put on it?

As a New Yorker who doesn't pay your taxes.

I WANT A FANCY DOME!!!!!

It's already zero. Not enough hotels, the airport is in another state, and the surrounding geography (while absolutely beautiful) isn't conducive to such a massive event. The NFL learned it's lesson with the Super Bowl in Jacksonville 20 years ago.

The Cardinals did it? Seattle went the opposite direction. I really can't think of another.

I've not spent a lot of time in NY, but I recently been spending time in NJ; if they're similar then you'd much more likely prefer OH taxes.

No thanks. I can't even watch a domed game on tv.
