We were drafting Gibbs? - Soonerpeace - 11-15-2024

Hadn’t heard that but knew we liked him.

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - SunsetBengal - 11-15-2024

Would of been a lot cooler if they did...

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - Synric - 11-15-2024

Damn Lions between Gibbs and Frank Ragnow makes me not want to root for the NFC underdog.

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - Whatever - 11-15-2024

*sigh*

So RB was a big enough need that we were going to trade up for one.

That fails, so naturally, we eff around until the 5th to get one.

But hey, we got Myles Murphy instead!

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - WeezyBengal - 11-15-2024

This was a blessing in disguise.

We got Chase Brown (who is pretty good), but we barely run the ball, can't set up a screen to save our life, and are one of the worst run blocking teams in the league...

Not sure Gibbs would have really put this team over the top or added all that much.

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - Frank Booth - 11-15-2024

why draft a 1st round RB when they throw it the most and have a garbage run blocking o-line?

REEKS of Mike Brown wanting the flashy player

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - Essex Johnson - 11-15-2024

This is Gibbs 2nd year of alot of playing time with a better line in front of him vs Brown.. I was unsure about Brown but he has impressed me this season and with less carries has 5 TDS to Gibbs 7 TDs and a respectable 4.4 yac... so i would say trading up for Gibbs #12 pick vs Brown 5th round pick, I don;t think I would say Gibbs is that great of pick difference at this point in career

Bratkowski would have loved Gibbs, we could have likely seen at least a half dozen shuttle passes per game.  Ninja

Gotta pull for them though! They're the Bengals of the NFC. Tampa and NO were once there with these two franchise's, but they have both surpassed the previously mentioned two.

Hell, I remember watching them when I lived in Ohio and Eric Hipple was their QB.

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - Soonerpeace - 11-15-2024

Lions took La Porta early as we wanted him too.

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - J24 - 11-15-2024

Serious question; if the Bengals ever traded up in first rd of the draft is thata sign of the Apocalypse?

Doesnt the term "woulda, coulda shoulda"  describe everything the front office attempts to do?

1995, Ki-Jana Carter

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - Millhouse - 11-15-2024

Id rather them taken Sam LaPorta over him or Murphy for that matter, who the Lions did take just a few picks after Murphy.

Carter was more like 95 I believe? I was in New Orleans and single in 95 when it was announced that we traded up.

In 2005 I was dating a smoking hot nurse/track athlete from UMass. The pinnacle of the Palmer era.

When Carter went down it was awful! It was like the air went right out of the room.

Funny thing about it though, his injury ushered in the Corey Dillon era at RB.

RE: We were drafting Gibbs? - jj22 - 11-15-2024

So they supposedly miss out on him but aren't wiling to trade up for Van Ness, McDonald, Forbes (who I remember they "loved"), Gonzales, Kincaid? Not saying any of these players worked out but we had needs other than RB that they could have jumped on if they were feeling frogish.

This sounds like pre draft talk. Many players think they'll be drafted by a team and get passed on. Now sure how he'd even know they were trying to trade up for him.

I understand your reasoning for thinking that way, but I also have to say that the Bengals are notorious for not paying whatever it takes to attain, or even retain a player that significantly makes their team better. (I could make a long list, but it's Friday evening and I got better things to stuff)

Hell they took the TE I wanted last draft too LaPorta. Their 2 picks Gibbs/LaPorta are the two I wanted in the first and 2nd round.
