A positive - Chase Brown - ochocincos - 11-20-2024 While this season has been a major disappointment in many ways, one positive that may come out of it is we may be seeing the new RB1 for the next few years in Chase Brown. Brown has over 800 yards and 7 total TDs on 175 touches. Brown has an entire yard per carry higher average than Zack Moss (4.3 to 3.3). It's very likely with 6 games left that Chase Brown will exceed 1000 yards from scrimmage and even potentially surpass 1200 yards from scrimmage. Bengals may decide they don't need to address RB early in this upcoming draft now because of the emergence of Chase Brown. RE: A positive - Chase Brown - RegularGuy22 - 11-20-2024 And he would be doing even better if he had an above average O line. RE: A positive - Chase Brown - bengalfan74 - 11-20-2024 Yes Pretty good bright spot for this dark season. RE: A positive - Chase Brown - TheLeonardLeap - 11-20-2024 Alternatively..... Last 8 games (since he started getting 10+ carries a game) he's at 4.0ypc. Last 7 games he's at 3.8ypc. Last 5 games he's at 3.6ypc. His 5.9 average on receiving is 146th out of 154 qualified players. ....we have other needs more pressing to upgrade, but we still need help at RB. - - - - - - - Before anyone blames the OL entirely for it, Brown is 10th among RBs in average yards per carry before contact and 37th among RBs in average yards per carry after contact. He is breaking tackles at an extremely high rate in fairness to him, he just doesn't seem to be getting much out of it when he does. Also seems to be getting better at pass blocking, as I am pretty sure I saw him make a couple good blocks each of the last two weeks. RE: A positive - Chase Brown - Synric - 11-20-2024 We are seeing a regression in the rush offense after the injury to Erick All. They don't have anyone to replace him so we are seeing alot more spread out personnel groupings and back to the simple inside zone/duo rush offense. A silver lining to that is Chase Brown is starting to show up in the passing offense as both a receiver and blocker. He is showing a good feel for spacing especially in scramble situations. I haven't watched all of the Chargers game yet, but he did a very good job against Baltimore in pass pro. He showed no fear, and made a couple crucial pickups. My personal opinion here, but I'm not spending a Day 1 or Day 2 pick on a RB when there's a clear need for (I)OL, DL, DB (specifically safety), and likely pass catcher(s). Brown is showing that while there may be opportunity to upgrade, he's at least ok compared to poor in other areas that need addressed more urgently. Plus, Brown has the kind of skillset that could get elevated with better OL run blocking/scheme. Both of which hopefully are coming next season. Yes I hate to bang the bad Oline drum everytime we're talking our RB's and it seems to happen, a lot. But I feel with a legit interior Oline and a better scheme/play caller you'd be seeing him posting better numbers. I'm noy saying he's Barry Sanders! It's just that I feel he can be an effective rotation type RB. We still need a #2 better than Moss RE: A positive - Chase Brown - Bengalfan4life27c - 11-20-2024 I don't see this as a positive just make me have more disdain for the coaches and FO giving Zach Moss money when he shouldn't have made the 53 RE: A positive - Chase Brown - coachmcneil71 - 11-20-2024 (Yesterday, 12:53 PM)ochocincos Wrote: While this season has been a major disappointment in many ways, one positive that may come out of it is we may be seeing the new RB1 for the next few years in Chase Brown. He's really progressing nicely! Wts, team needs a thumper RB. A Pacheco type of RB would be perfect. RE: A positive - Chase Brown - THE PISTONS - 11-20-2024 Brown is a backup on nearly every NFL team. His fumble against the Ravens was the start of our demise in that game. Pacheco isn't much bigger than Brown. Like a few lbs maybe. As well as we needed Mixon to move on to further prove this. Mixon is on a team that run blocks well and Zach was on a team last year in Indy that blocked well for the run and the production of both players on our team and on the other teams show this. We cannot really go off of what Chase Brown has done since he has only played for us. Among RBs, Brown is 23rd in YPA, so he's clearly able to produce at a starter-level elsewhere. Rushing yards wise, he's 19th, so again clearly able to produce at a starter-level elsewhere. There are only 2 RBs with more yards than him on fewer rushing attempts - Jahmyr Gibbs and Jordan Mason. Brown is 18th among RBs in yards from scrimmage, so again clearly able to produce at a starter-level elsewhere. The only two RBs with more yards from scrimmage on fewer touches - Gibbs and De'Von Achane. If Brown was getting more RB1-level touches earlier in the year, he'd likely be up there in the Top 10-15. If the 49ers tender Jordan Mason at his originally drafted round (UDFA) because they don't want to/can't put $5m into a 2nd round tender for a backup RB, I wouldn't mind the Bengals checking in on signing him. For sure I'm game for adding to the RB room, but only on Day 3 or a cheap vet (under $4 mill APY). But the likelihood of getting someone head and shoulders above Chase Brown with a late-round draft pick is very low. Heck, even likely 1st rounder Ashton Jeanty may disappoint with this run blocking/scheme. Definitely have liked what I have seen of Chase Brown this season. His effort in pass protection has made me really like him and he has really improved as a pass catcher as well. Almost seen him being on the verge of breaking a monster run a few times he accelerates so fast. Imagine if he actually got a big hole for once from the OL? I don't know if he is good enough for me not to look at a pounding RB in this next draft though. I still want one, cannot help it. That RB out of Boise State is a stud but I don't know yet if he will go too early or if he will even be in the next draft. Our interior offensive line is bad. Brown is probably good enough given those issues. The worry with the 49ers is they have a history of taken undrafted backs and making them good. I doubt he comes here and replicates that. |
