To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - ochocincos - 12-09-2024

Burrow, like Chase, wants to keep playing, as both are on pace to break franchise records.
Unlike Chase though, Burrow already has most of the single-season passing records - passing yards (4611 back in 2021), passing TDs (35 back in 2022), QB Rating (108.3 in 2021), and YPG (288.2 in 2021).

Chase actually though only has yards (1455 in 2021).
He's 33 away from the receptions record (112) set by Housh in 2007.
He's 4 away from receiving TDs record (17) set by Pickens in 1995.

While I get Chase wanting to break those records by Housh and Pickens, is there much point for Burrow to try to break his own single-season franchise records vs making sure to go into next year healthy?
Or would it be smarter to have Burrow (and Chase) sit and let the backup take their spot for the remaining month?

Chase can still get production even with Brandon Allen Jake Browning, and if Chase doesn't play, it would give Higgins more opportunity to show how well he can be a #1 for another team and also guarantee Burton to also get a starter's amount of snaps heading into next year.
The only thing the Bengals may not want to do is if Higgins does put up stud WR1 numbers, it would pretty much guarantee he's going elsewhere. Although I think he's gone either way.

I wouldn't sit either of them. First and foremost, it's a punk move. People are gonna and have paid good money to see the two of them. I hate all the rest days in the NBA, and I'm not ok with "resting" our guys cause the team sucks. Second Ja'Marr Chase is playing for a contract, and I wanna see him squeeze every penny outta our miser owner. He should already be locked up, and they need to pay the price and learn the lesson. Third, there is zero point in sitting them. Players can get hurt during competitive games and stretches too. Being out of it, or having a seed locked up changes nothing for me. I don't really care about the team record aspects of it.

That would certainly be something considering he’s on the 49ers. Tongue

Hell, most of Tee’s injuries have happened in PRACTICE.

Lol damn. I meant Jake Browning, but I saw Brandon Allen listed on a records list and for some reason, his name stuck in my head as I was typing the rest of the thread!
Edit incoming to the OP!

You most certainly don't rest Higgins lol.
YOU WANNA BE A WR1?! PROVE IT, TEE!

I’ve got quite a big investment in Burrow hitting over 35 passing tds.

As soon as he hits that I’m all in favour of sitting em both down.

Unless by some miracle we win tonight and then the Broncos and Colts start to shit the bed next weekend.

I personally really want to see Chase get the Triple Crown. It would be one of the lone bright spots in this miserable season. Might be tough on the receptions front though. Bowers looks like the next great TE that Pitts was supposed to be.

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - TecmoBengals - 12-09-2024

Let Burrow and Chase play, have fun, break records, and get paid.

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - Bengalion - 12-09-2024

Records are meant to be broken. After the season is over in 5 weeks, these guys will have to wait almost nine months to play a regular season game again. Let them finish the job and win some games. Also there's still some divisional games to be played...

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - Housh - 12-09-2024

Why would you bench the only reason 90% of fans are buying tickets?

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 12-10-2024

You cannot consider sitting either until after we are actually out.

The Broncos have Indy, at LAC, and the Chiefs still on their schedule. In addition to us.

On our side, Tennessee is next. They stink and should be tanking besides. The Browns could also go into tank mode.

We need the Chiefs to lose again so they won't sit everyone in the finale vs Denver. But that might also mean Pitt having domething to play for at the end.

It is a super long shot, but we are not out yet. You cannot give up before that. If we are still alive when the Denver game rolls around......

Don't see KC playing very hard to get the Bengals in who would likely be the last seed and their 1st round opponent, unless home field advantage is still undecided.

Burrow and Chase are having monster seasons. The NFL's leading QB and leading WR. Watching those two ball is the one of the delights of watching Bengals football. You never know whether there will be such a magical year for both of them like this, and its why I stayed up for the entire MNF game despite needing to be up again at 6am for work. Even if the Bengals are eliminated, I would be watching every minute just to see those two perform their magic.

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - Sled21 - 12-10-2024

The only people ever considering taking players out during the season without having playoffs locked up are fans. The athletes and coaches just laugh.

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - Millhouse - 12-10-2024

Whoever voted to sit both them better not complain about Zac's preseason strategy of sitting everyone.

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - ochocincos - 12-10-2024

Updated numbers for Burrow and Chase after the win against DAL with 4 games left:

Burrow:
3706 yards (905 yards off record)
33 TDs (2 off record)
107.9 QB Rating (0.4 off the record for starting QB)

Chase:
93 receptions (19 off the record)
1319 rec yards (136 yards off the record)
15 receiving TDs (2 off the record)

Everything above is in rather easy reach for both of these guys with 4 games left to play.
At least the yards+TDs.

They're gonna break em despite the clown show of a team they're on.

Whoever voted for anything other than playing these 2, are obviously trolling

RE: To Sit or Break Franchise Records? - Bengalfan4life27c - 12-10-2024

Bengals either need to reach post season or Chase needs 5 td's in his last 4 games to catch Moss for most TD receptions first 4 years.
