McMaybe - Sled21 - 02-12-2025

Do you think we stick with him, re-sign Zoe's boyfriend, or look elsewhere? McMoney went to McMaybe and cost us some games. York seemed solid but I'm not sure he could maintain it or he wouldn't be available.

He was Money Mac and a I thought he'd be the Vinatieri and Burrow would be Brady, but it seems like his confidence is shaken and he's missing kicks that were gimmes early in his career.

I'd look elsewhere and see if we can find an upgrade because we don't want entire seasons wasted because our kicker can't make routine kicks, much-less kicks in big moments.

Probably sticking with him. Doubt the FO is going to take a $3.75m dead cap hit for a K and by the time final cuts come they'll have already paid him $933k, so at that point it's all but guaranteed.

They'll bring in a camp leg or two as they always do, and maybe even frame it as a potential competition, but it'll basically be "don't poop yourself and you win" for McPherson.

I didn't even look at the cap hit but you're right about not taking that cap hit for a kicker.

Hopefully he can make some long kicks in preseason and then some big kicks early in the season and regain his confidence.

RE: McMaybe - Southpaw Frerotte - 02-12-2025

Just another question mark going into the offseason. You know who isn't a question mark? York. If it's a clutch situation, he would manage to hit the uprights from the one yard line. That choker should have no place near the 55 man roster next season.

RE: McMaybe - Clark W Griswold - 02-12-2025

York’s not good by any means but Burrow, Chase and York are 20-0 as teammates.
Ride that train until it derails!

Close, he went from Money Mac to Maybe Mac. WTS, he will have every chance to be our kicker in 25.

Will it be the wrong decision, who knows, but I'm sure Jake Elliott is glad we chose Fat Randy

Well that's the thing isn't it. If people want to have competition for the starting gigs, then it doesn't make much sense to not go with the guy who wins the competition in camp. Fat Randy outkicked Elliott that pre-season.

I fully expect Money Mac back in 20225 and beyond. He has a huge leg, can kick the ball out of the endzone and has shown he can be money. It would be a bad move to cut him for an unknown and also eat 3.7 in cap space dead money.

RE: McMaybe - Fan_in_Kettering - 02-12-2025

I firmly believe 2024 was an anomaly for Evan McPherson. He’ll be the kicker in 2025. His injury probably occurred earlier than reported.

Elliott was not good kicking field goals over 50 yards recently. I believe he was batting zero in 2024 until he finally hit one in the Super Bowl. He has been inconsistent in his career, not uncommon for any kicker not named Tucker or Butler. Mac had a bad year (for him), but I still am confident he rebounds.

Maybe Willie Anderson will finally make it in to the Hall of Fame by then.   Tongue

RE: McMaybe - 007BengalsFan - 02-12-2025

McPherson has never been that great of a kicker.  He had a good run in the post season in 2021 where he made a bunch of kicks but overall when you look at how he has done throughout his entire NFL career, he has never come close to finishing in the top 10 in field goal percentage in any year he has played.

RE: McMaybe - pally - 02-12-2025

Bring both kickers to camp....see what happens

RE: McMaybe - puddycat - 02-12-2025

The problems started when we switch punters, i.e. holders. The trust between the kicker and the holder has to be absolute; any doubt in the kicker's head is a problem. He's got the leg we want and a carousel of kickers inspires confidence in the kicker like a carousel of QBs affects the starting QB.

RE: McMaybe - BrownAssClown - 02-12-2025

Bring another kicker into camp but give McPherson every opportunity to keep his job. Hopefully he can become money once again.

That's a good one.

Taking out last year, he was a top 5 K every year, missing the same amount of kicks each year and never any more: that kind of consistency, combined with his clutch factor (which only was non-existent last year), make him a needed commodity.

He's the best K in our team history, save for maybe Shayne and it is hilarious how quickly people wrote him off when hurt (I don't give a shit if he comes out and says himself that he wasn't hurt, he was 100% hurt last year).

He comes back with a vengeance this year and goes back to 83%+ percentage, which is really all that matters.

Or maybe you want to get someone like Eddy Pineiro, who has only made 2 more FGs from 50+ in his career, than Evan did in 1 season? Sure, let's go back to the time of Fat Randy...

Hopefully Burrow and the Defense keep him in situations where his kicks are low stress and have minimal impact on the game!

Good call on the injury, that may just be the case. I'd probably give him this year at least.

RE: McMaybe - Joelist - 02-12-2025

First thing is make sure Mac is 100% recovered from injury. Second thing is figure out the snapper and holder situations and fix the whole operation because Rehkow may be a good punter but he is not a good holder right now. If Mac is not 100% then yes roll with York.
