RB Need/Set? - jj22 - 02-24-2025 Are we still in need of a RB or are we fine with Chase Brown as the 3 down back? Fine with Brown and a Herbert/Moss type backup? Or are we still in the belief that Chase Brown is better as a committee back. RE: RB Need/Set? - SunsetBengal - 02-24-2025 I think that we are fine with Chase Brown as the featured back, but RB is still a need as we really don't have a viable RB2 or even change of pace back. I don't think that they need to keep paying Moss, as I think that role could easily be filled by a mid-late round draft pick. RE: RB Need/Set? - Au165 - 02-24-2025 I'd bring in someone in the rotation, either a day 3 pick (in a very deep class), or someone in FA. RE: RB Need/Set? - jj22 - 02-24-2025 I don't know if we have enough draft picks to spend on a RB.... My guess is at some point we will trade back and get another pick. RE: RB Need/Set? - schroomytunes - 02-24-2025 Chase is a 3 down back, but we need to upgrade the room: 1) Brown 2) Re-sign Khalil Herbert 3) Cut Moss and go the UDFA route, or a veteran FA on a cheap salary. under 1 million RE: RB Need/Set? - Synric - 02-24-2025 RB is the most injured position in Football and Chase Brown might just be the only RB on the roster. They need a least need one (more likely 2) more guy as Browns backup and to give him a break on game Day. The second RB position is also important now they use 2 returners during kickoff especially if he can lead block. If so, even if we sign Herbert for less money, I would love to add Judkins. I think he maybe available in round 3 for us. Did we sign a set of better guards and use Cappa gained cap money towards their cap hit. Did we sign a DE and cut Hubbard? Bengals in my opinion Bengals need to cut more players in 2025 than they have ever in one year. If they do, they can do a lot of upgrading prior to the draft. RE: RB Need/Set? - coachmcneil71 - 02-24-2025 I like Herbert more than most and Brown was really starting to bloom last season, but I think we need a thumper! Williams has been here long enough with little to zero return on the investment. I think Moss will somehow manage to hang around again this year. As Synric mentioned, teams have to have a small stable of RBs. They endure a lot of contact throughout a season. I don't think we can afford to draft a RB though with only six picks. Contributing RBs can be found in UDFA if they do their homework. RE: RB Need/Set? - TheLeonardLeap - 02-24-2025 Need to draft a late round RB and probably a priority UDFA to churn the position's depth with new young cheap guys. RE: RB Need/Set? - BenZoo2 - 02-24-2025 I’m fine with bringing Herbert back and bringing in some college free agents or practice squad players from another roster. RE: RB Need/Set? - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 02-24-2025 Still a need, Trayveon offers nothing as a backup. We can do much better there and we need a thumper. I would bring back Khalil Herbert as he is a better runner than Moss and cut Moss. Trade back somewhere in the Draft to add another pick so we can spend one on one of these talented backs in this Draft. There are lots of good ones we can get mid to late. What is great is Chase Brown shown he can be a 3 down RB this last year, but we don't want to wear him out. Nice thread JJ22. ![]() RE: RB Need/Set? - Luvnit2 - 02-24-2025 This is from a ESPN+ article. They like 6 running backs a lot. Which position groups have scouts excited? The running back class has a chance to be special, as six backs have at least a second-round grade in my pre-combine rankings. There is also depth. "If you can't find a starting running back this year, you're really just not trying," an NFC West area scout said. "There will be starters coming out of Rounds 5, 6 and 7." Boise State's Ashton Jeanty leads the way and has a first-round grade, but teams will find starters in Round 2 in Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson, Iowa's Kaleb Johnson, North Carolina's Omarion Hampton and Tennessee's Dylan Sampson. There's a good chance this year's draft will feature the most running backs picked since the draft was reduced to seven rounds in 1994 (30 were drafted in 1998 and 2017). I want to see his speed and how he does at the combine, but I also like him. He would be number 7. In round 5 or 6 it is likely Neal from Kansas is available and round 6 Harvey. I like both. I Fell this is why Moss should be a cut casualty if we draft any of these 9 guys. I also see the value of vet running backs dropping due to the young RB's in the draft who other than Jeanty, will be a lot less expensive and young. Aaron Jones and others may be pushed down to no more than 5 million a year. Dude is built like a FB and is known more for his hard running than his speed but he can do it all, pass protect, catch the ball and make big runs. Neal is another great talent. This RB class is loaded man. Agree, this is why Moss should be cut. He didn't show much at all for what he was being paid last year and I had high hopes for the guy but I think he benefitted from good run blocking in Indy. Chase Brown was a better pass protector last season and that is why I am sure we brought in Moss in the first place. But then I see what adding a great RB like Barkley did for the Eagles. Is that guy available in round 2 or 3? Not likley, but less like in undrafted FA. This was an example of the team brought in insurance with Moss, but Brown exceeded the expectations. Agreed, I was really high on Chase Brown before we drafted him but the way he improved in pass protection and catching the ball in one year was insane. He was an upgrade over Mixon for us IMO. But that doesn't mean we don't need another RB. Moss costs too much for what he brings and Herbert is a better runner and I think he proved his value against the stealers. This is the perfect Draft to add another talent. |
