Welcome back Cam Sample - Luvnit2 - 03-12-2025

Bengals brought him back. He was lost in 2024 to a ruptured achilles tendon. He has plenty of time to rehab. In essence, he got 2 years off from a wear and tear on his body.

He is a vet and showed some flashes. I had high hopes for him in 2024, then he was injured.

RE: Welcome back Cam Sample - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 03-13-2025

Sample was a decent rotational piece before the injury.

If he can be close to what he once was,,he is probably DE4/5 as of right now. Trey, Ossai, Murphy, Sample/Johnson.

If he does not have it anymore, he gets cut.

If he looks like his is close and could get there with more time, he probably makes the PS.

Good "do the right thing" signing, however it works out on the field.

RE: Welcome back Cam Sample - Ell Prez - 03-13-2025

Definitely bringing the boys back this off season. Makes sense, our defense was pretty good. Don’t want to lose all the back up pieces we had.

RE: Welcome back Cam Sample - J24 - 03-13-2025

If healthy, he could be a nice sub package interior pass rusher.

Cool, now you are blaming the guys who were hurt and did not play in one game for our 2024 lousy defense.  Smirk

I think he was a big loss with the trend upward he was on when it happened.

Will help the depth of the line greatly if he returns to form and keeps progressing.

We need one of these younger but experienced guy to step up. Has anyone ever looked at Trey Hendrickson'r first 3 years in New Orleans? He only had  6.5 sacks or averaged a little over  2 a year. Then in year 4, he had 13.5 sacks.

I remember when we signed Trey we had a ton of naysayers crying he was a one hit wonder and thought team screwed up.

RE: Welcome back Cam Sample - NotBigzo - 03-13-2025

Oh man. We really hitting big now

RE: Welcome back Cam Sample - SunsetBengal - 03-13-2025

Two years off from wear and tear also can = two year erosion of skills. Hope it's a non-guaranteed deal as he might get beat out by a rookie for a roster spot.

Right? All we heard was that Trey Hendrickson was a product of the line he played on, and that even though the NFL lists him as an All-Pro, he wasn't.

Is cam sample good? Did he just make this roster one step closer to a Super Bowl team? Cincinnati fans are so complacent. I will confine to criticize this team until they make a move worth clapping for. They don’t have the best history of making moves to go all in. I thought that’s what we wanted? You’re happy with the best singing be Slayton? That’s the best move we’ve made. I thought a player like that would just be a side note. All we’ve done is bring back guys who have been on the roster already. A roster that has missed last two playoffs. Cool.

For every Trey Hendrickson there's dozens or more Will Clarke/Jordan Willis/Khalid Kareem/etc.

If they've been in the NFL for 4-5 years (Ossai and Cam Sample both heading into Year 5), it's overwhelmingly likely they just are who they are at this point.

That's like a team saying "we don't need to draft a QB early or spend big money on a FA QB, did anyone look at when Tom Brady was drafted?" and rolling with a 6th or 7th round pick QB. Relying on an exception to the norm is not a real plan.

The 1 year anniversary of his tear will be this coming August 5th, so I don't understand this comment about him getting 2 years off

Regardless, I like this signing as a low cost, low risk depth body on the Dline. He will essentially take Sam Hubbard's role as a run defending DE/DT hybrid.

The other thing that many ignore is that Hendrickson had only played one season at DE, his first 3 seasons he wasn't the starter and they had him as an OLB. As soon as they put him head up on the Tackle with his hand on the ground, the magic began.

Yes... They're completely dismissing the needle mover that Cam Sample was in 2023.

Underrated player for us that we missed last season. Glad Cam is back, he is a good run stopper and a decent pass rusher that can play
outside or inside. Very versatile D-lineman.

I love players who want to be here. Nice article.

He has a similar skill set to Hubbard in my opinion.

I figured he was a low risk addition. Is the salary guaranteed? I am guessing it is not.

Sample is not TJ Twat, but he is better than a lot of people on here want to give him credit for, especially now that everyone is in "criticize everything Bengals" mode. He plays both DE and DT, and was coming on strong when he was injured. If his achilles heals right, I'm glad to have him back. It's not like he costs a fortune
