Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - Bengalbug - 04-03-2025 “We could, I guess, go wherever we wanted after this year if we didn’t pick the option up,” Blackburn said. “We’ll see. Like I said, all these things will be done in due course. We are having discussions, and so we’re hopeful that the county is thinking about it a lot, too, and wants to get it addressed in a way that would be beneficial to both of us.” —————— Is this a Cold War type of front Katie is putting up? On one hand, tax payers have committed a lot to the Bengals. On the other hand, I’d imagine another city (St. Louis?) would HAPPILY welcome the current iteration of the Bengals and the revenue it brings to the city. You gotta say this about Katie, she handles everything in about the same manner. RE: Bengals v. Her plate has been full of late, with contracts for stars Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, a negotiation ongoing with edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, and free agency. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - QueenCity - 04-03-2025 Newport Bengals.... Kidding aside hopefully this is just posturing and both sides can figure out a resolution. RE: Bengals v. Or would that not apply when the county taxes stop? I would think it would apply indefinitely if the County helped fund PBS and they would have to build a whole new facility that is not taxpayer-funded to get out of this law? https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/section-9.67 Quote:No owner of a professional sports team that uses a tax-supported facility for most of its home games and receives financial assistance from the state or a political subdivision thereof shall cease playing most of its home games at the facility and begin playing most of its home games elsewhere unless the owner either:EDIT - Honestly, I also really dislike how cold KB operates. Hardlines everything. Doesn't seem to have a compassionate bone in her body. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - Luvnit2 - 04-03-2025 I did not see where Katie said anything out of line. It is business, it appears they are appoachng a deadline for a lese to be extended. The time to negotiate is now, once Bengals agree to 2 more years, the window closes so yes Katie should explain all options are on the table. But, she also said the team loves it here and likes the location being downtown. RE: Bengals v. It appears Bengals could not renew the lease and then give 6 months notice. The Bengals offering someone the opportunity to buy the team still gives the team control. They set the price so they could ask an outageous price, the same price they could get from another city to move. RE: Bengals v. I would think it would be some evaluation of the worth of the franchise by some 3rd party. Otherwise, yea I agree that's a way to get around the law. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - BenZoo2 - 04-03-2025 Mr d-bag (Mike florio) has an article about this on nbc sports summarizing the situation. RE: Bengals v. If another city values their business at 8 billion versus 4 billion, then the current owner deserves the higher evalaution. Business is not rainbows. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - J24 - 04-03-2025 The Brown Family isn't going to pay the enormous fee to move the team to a new metro area. My bet is they get a deal done by that date or extend the negotiating period to get a deal done. I think both sides want to be in downtown area. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - WeezyBengal - 04-03-2025 Bengals are stuck. They have done zero due dilligence with even remotely thinking about moving the team. No city, plot, plan whatsoever. Plus the 500-600 million dollar relocation fee. There is just no chance. The city has them by the balls. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - guyofthetiger - 04-03-2025 Personally, I can't afford the ticket prices anymore to go to a game so just let them play wherever they want. I'm not a fan of going downtown either. RE: Bengals v. Hamilton County - Square Off - TheLeonardLeap - 04-03-2025 I'm progressively hating Katie more with every time she talks to the media. Lets say you leave, and you take the risk that nobody is going to buy the Bengals from you (which I don't believe you'd do while Mike is still alive). Where are you going that's going to give you a big piece of land and a taxpayer funded stadium? Not only is that time largely over with a lot of cities voters rejecting deals, but also give it to YOU, the Brown/Blackburn family specifically. Everyone knows how you operate. You don't have the money to build a Patriots Place or Jerry World complex anywhere so you'd largely be in the exact same situation elsewhere soon enough. Hell, you won't even extend your sack king DE and one of only three great players on your team, how are you going to pay the hundreds of millions of dollars relocation fee? Stop being putzes, you became billionaires thanks to tax dollars and turned around and made Bengals tickets the 7th most expensive in the NFL. F that. Now use your own valuation to pay for your own continued wealth increase. No more tax dollars to sports teams. RE: Bengals v. I'm not a fan of going downtown either. I was a long term season ticket holder. I remember years by November I could not give away four tickets. At least now there is a reason to pay higher ticket prices. It really sucks to spend all of that money and not only you can't enjoy it, but friends and family can't either do a very bad product. She may not have said anything off putting, but I don’t think she have gone there at all, publicly. |
