Who's your breakout player this year? - WeezyBengal - 06-18-2025

Who takes a big jump this year and becomes a really, really good player?

I am between two. I think Mims takes a huge jump and I also think DJ Turner turns into a really good CB this year. He was playing very, very well most of the season until he got hurt in the Charges game.

Definitely like your thoughts on Mims and DJ. I have to go with Ossai, I think he will fit Golden's Defense like a glove and will get double
digit sacks this year and tons of pressures.

Breakout for me is McKinnley.

Don't think he'll be Reader-level, but he will show that he is a NT of the future for us.

Gonna go with Burton.... with chase and tee on the Field he should be able to get open often. provided he can get on the field himself. (to early to tell there but potential)

Chris Jenkins Jr., he had 3 sacks as a rookie which was the most sacks a Bengals rookie DT has had since Geno Atkins who also had 3. We write him off as a rusher because he didn’t do it in college but I think he was used differently and asked to do different things. He was thrown in the fire early staring games as a rookie playing with a club on his hand. I think he will be a good run defender and give us some unexpected sack production.

Does Chase Brown count as a breakout candidate?
If so, I think him.
I can see him running for 1200+ yards and another 300-400 in the air, scoring double-digit TDs.
Can easily become a Top 10 RB in the league.

If going elsewhere though because Brown kinda came onto the scene last half of last year, I'll go...
Dax Hill

We only got to see him for 5 games last year, and he performed pretty well.
Going into his 4th year now and hopefully able to play most/all of the season, I'm really hoping he establishes himself.
I was a huge fan of his coming out of the draft, and I tend to hold out hope on guys that I liked in the draft process probably longer than I should.

Demetrius Knight, he'll likely be a rookie starting next to Wilson. Fresh legs at LB will put him in contention for DROY.

I'm going to go with Cedric Johnson. His athleticism plus afford showed out in last 4 games last season

Gimme Kris Jenkins

RE: Who's your breakout player this year? - Synric - 06-18-2025

Defense: A healthy Dax Hill in the slot.
Offense: Tahj Brooks perfect RB by committee pairing with Chase Brown. He fits well in a shotgun passing offense.

RE: Who's your breakout player this year? - FormerlyBengalRugby - 06-18-2025

I like a lot of the answers, and optimistic for a lot of the guys, especially Kris Jenkins, but I am going out on my own limb and calling for Tycen Anderson to have a break out season.

Anderson already stated the goal of being the be best special teamer, he has fantastic measurables, looked great in last year's pre-season, and the talent in front of him is questionable, so there could be some opportunity for stealing some snaps during the season.

What specifially about Golden's defense makes Ossai fit better than Lou's?

Potentially, his ability to play the Viper position. He's the most athletic for his size and probably has the most potential to move around and rush from multiple spots as well as drop into coverage.

I'd say Chase Brown broke out last year.

Golden's Defense needs versatile players more so than Lou's pure set Ends. Ossai is the one End we have that can stand up and play LB and
he can move inside as well. I don't think Ossai was used right under Lou honestly. Also expect a lot more LB blitzes in Golden's Defense like he
did with Notre Dame using the Viper position to confuse Offenses.

I don't know if Ossai can play the Viper position, I expect that to be an actual LB like Knight the guy he coveted so much in the Draft. But yeah,
this is what I see happening, this will be a much more interesting Defense to watch at the very least that is much more aggressive than Lou's.

I'll jump in to say I have a break out coach, not a player.  Coach Taylor has said all along that he likes 5 or 6 DB's on the field 80 % of the game.  Golden on the other hand says he may use 3 to 4 linebackers on the field during games.   Since Bengals have been just awful on defense last 2 seasons, I'm interested to see what Golden coming over from top job at Notre Dame has in mind.  It sounds like instead of sitting back in nickel and dime prevent as Bengals have done under Taylor, Golden has no plans of sitting back in the prevent all game.  Basketball coach Bobby Knight view of football was the only thing the prevent defense prevents is it prevents your team from winning. He was not a fan of it, and it sounds like Golden defense of 3 and sometimes 4 linebackers is going to be different from anything Bengals Fans have seen in a long time.

If 3 or 4 linebackers works for Golden, we will see a Bengals defense that smothers all the plays in front of the front 7.  The 1981 Bengals showed you can mix up blitzes out of this, never the same blitz person twice in a row.  You can get after the QB and RB's pretty good.   So the Break Out Player could be hiring Golden away from Notre Dame to run this defense, and he has a whole different defense plan that what Bengals Fans have been seeing.  Not as passive and not sitting back in the Nickle and Dime prevent all game as Taylor likes.  I'm all for Taylor sticking to offense, and let Golden from Notre Dame do the defense.

Regardless of who it is, Golden should have no shortage of options with the althleticism he has to work with.

What i'm waiting for are the goal line carries for Carter. He got a rush for a TD this past year. Ninja

WTS, Barrett Carter is the guy i'm going to be keeping my eye on this TC. Don't know if i'd label him a breakout player just yet, but i got a feelin'...
