You know that it has to be the dullest part of the offseason when comparisons like this happen. Rang is a respected draft analyst and has been for years, let's hope that the similarity he's seeing comes to fruition.

Quote:CINCINNATI — Dylan Fairchild could be a very important part of the Bengals' offense this decade. FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang thinks of former Bengals Pro Bowl guard Max Montoya when he thinks about Fairchild.

Montoya is one of the greatest players in Bengals history, ranking 11th in franchise history with a 94 Approximate Value on Pro Football Reference.

"Cincinnati has dedicated a lot of draft picks and money to its skill positions and is now hoping that Fairchild can step right into a starting role as a rookie," Rang wrote. "He was overshadowed for much of his time at Georgia, and the megawatt star power in Cincinnati guarantees the same will occur with the Bengals, even if he plays well as a rookie. I like his bulk, strength, agility, and mentality and think he’ll prove a longtime starter, perhaps emerging as the best guard for the Bengals since Montoya, the only player at this position ever selected to the Pro Bowl from Cincinnati."

Now, this is more of a fun thought exercise than Rang saying Fairchild is the next Max Montoya. Bengals fans would surely welcome that kind of development after the team's cycled through guard after guard for much of the past decade.

Fairchild will battle it out for a chance to start at one of the guard spots in training camp.

That is big shoes, he is one of my favorites and when he played I was a Browns fan. I always thought he was under rated and he seemed to dominate the Browns DL.

Yep. Just give me another Clint Boling. They’re so overdue to hit on an IOL.

Tj slaton = Geno Atkins?

Yeah, Montoya is probably our best Guard of all time. But he was a mauler kind of like Fairchild was at Georgia. Fairchild is very physical
and knows how to stay low which right there is an upgrade over Volson at LG. If Dylan can stay balanced and low he could be a good one
for us right off the bat. There is a reason he is already with the 1's.

Dave Lapham had a video with Scott Peters talking about building a dominant OL.  The road to dominance runs through competence.  And I would just be happy if the team would stop settling for incompetence with upside.

Like most Bengals fans, I have high hopes for Fairchild and all of our draft picks. But comparing him to one of our all time great Offensive Linemen before his first NFL snap is more than just a bit of a stretch. Summer doldrums.

Cordell Volson = Eric Steinbach?

CJ is a joke.

But the quote does not compare Faichild to Montoya (though the CJ author is either too dumb to know it or just wanted a clickbait headline).

The quote says Fairchild could be the best G we've had since Montoya, who is the only PB guard this franchise has ever had.

He's comparing him to every G since Montoya. And COULD is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

I was just going to make this same post.
