Demetrius Knight - pally - 07-12-2025

In all the conversations about Henrickson and Stewart's contract situations, we have forgotten that Knight is also still unsigned. Just because he practiced in the relative no-contact OTAs doesn't mean he will extend that to a full training camp.

Has there been any talk about what the hold up is with him?

It has been discussed in other threads. Right now, 30 second rounders have not been signed. As far as I understand, the reason for the hold up is that the first two selected in the second round were given unprecedented, fully guaranteed contracts.

Didn't know that about the first two second round picks. Thanks Nepa. All I know is that Knight practiced so he is all in and I am sure he will
be signed soon. Sure like how he takes great angles and wraps up like a mutha, things Pratt was pretty terrible at the last few years.

I didn't, personally, I just don't consider him an overly-critical piece to the success of the defense.
I just think Bengals can run with Wilson and Burks in 2-LB sets, Carter for extra LB if need be and be ok.

Same with Stewart. Bengals can get by with Hendrickson, Ossai, Murphy, Sample, and Johnson.
Stewart is a nice-to-have that has plenty of work to do to make an impact on the defense.
Not having Hendrickson though would be a huge blow.
No one on the roster is replacing 35.0 sacks in 2 years.

I disagree Stewart will bring making impacts early.. without top 2 draft picks we are thin and no depth in trouble

Of course, one of the teams giving a fully guaranteed contract to a 2nd rounder was Cleveland. First  Deshaun Watson with a  unprecedented fully guaranteed contract and now a second rounder with a fully guaranteed contract. I guess when your owner is Jimmy Haslem, you don't have any concern in setting new financial precedents for the rest of the teams.

Media is protecting him as the guy to replace Pratt as the starter along side Wilson

I've already had him penciled in as the the day 1 starter in my mind.

The teams that gave picks no #33 and #34 fully guaranteed contracts have created a mess for the rest of the league, as the other 30 are all refusing to sign in some sort of solidarity movement. I blame NIL in CFB, because when young guys came to the league broke they were eager to sign and get to work.

Sunset; last year's 33rd pick (Keon Coleman) got ~97% guaranteed. The 34th pick (Ladd McConkey) got ~92% guaranteed. The 35th pick got ~88% guaranteed.

Everyone is waiting for Nick Emmanwori to sign with Seahawks - and he wants 100% guaranteed.

And yes, before NIL, players came into the draft worse than broke. They were in debt to their agency for upfront money needed to train and get ready for the combine.

Now the debt leverage is gone. Also, some of these guys made more in College than they will make in their NFL contract.

Maybe they will play for the love of the game Smirk

Emmanwori is going to be a force in the league (at least I think so), he might actually be worth a fully guaranteed deal. The issue that this creates is that all of the other 2nd round picks all feel like they're now worth fully guaranteed contracts. If things continue on this trajectory, it won't be many more years before ALL NFL contracts will be fully guaranteed, similar to MLB.

RE: Demetrius Knight - jj22 - 07-12-2025

No agent wants to be the one that sets the bar for the following picks to not get fully guaranteed contracts, and they are allowed to work together unlike the Owners.

That IS the crux of this situation.

RE: Demetrius Knight - Joelist - 07-12-2025

If they expect to start guaranteeing that late in the draft then they need to hold an emergency meeting and waive the Funding Rule. You can bet teams did not factor in having to put their first two picks total contracts into escrow earlier in the offseason.

Well the Browns #2 pick may have just provided the break everyone owner wanted, Judkins was just arrested on domestic violence charges. He was the 4th pick of the 2nd round
