1916 Reds Uniforms - TheLeonardLeap - 07-29-2025

I saw Pally's thread on the Packers throwback uniforms having a faux leather helmet in the Around the NFL part of the board and that reminded me....

...why haven't we made this our fulltime uniforms, or at least a regular alternate option? We wore them back in 2016 against the Cubs and they were freaking amazing looking and then nothing.

I never liked the pinstripes in Cincy. I thought that they looked lame in the 90s.

Booo.... but also the 90s pinstripes were red instead of black. Also they were vests over tshirts.

Funny you post this as I'll think about some of the early 20th century Reds uniforms as being cool and should be the team uniforms.

I think the Castellini ownership sticks to a playbook of marketing the past to generate fan interest. They live off the Big Red Machine, Reds greats/HoF'ers, or whatever to market the team and to generate interest and revenue. My problem is that's where it ends. They honor the past to market the team because year-after-year the team isn't good enough as constructed to sustain interest since we're a losing franchise. As I blah blah blah through this post: Castellini wants the uniforms to more resemble the 1970s unis as that's peak Reds dominance. Make money marketing the glory days which includes uniform design. That's my bullshit theory at least.  Hilarious
