A tale of two DE's - Sled21 - 08-06-2025

I'm driving down to Adair County this morning for an investigation, and I'm listening to Bob Papa on "Airing it Out" on NFL radio. They are discussing Micah Parsons and the Cowboys. After months of listening to them excoriate the Bengals over the Trey Hendrickson saga, they say the Cowboys are playing it smart. That Parsons is not a free agent, is still under contract to make 22 million this year (The Bengals offered Trey 28), and they have the option to franchise tag Parsons twice. The Cowboys will not trade Parsons. Two DE's, both holding in, both under contract, neither will be traded, yet the Bengals are buffoons and the Cowboys are smart. They mentioned that Watt and Crosby got their deals done, but there was no mention of Trey at all. It's just simply amazing.

Very few media types actually paint the Bengals in the same light at the other teams in regards to contracts.

Yes, the Bengals have had some stupid moves on contracts, but they also have ponied up huge money to guys over the years. For anyone to say that Dallas is "playing it smart" hasn't paid attention to how they've done business the last 10 years.

RE: A tale of two DE's - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 08-06-2025

Pretty ridiculous alright. No way are Jerry Jones and the Cowboys playing it smart not paying the younger Micah. At least with
the Bengals they made a somewhat fair extension to Trey and Trey has a dumbass agent. Micah was saying everything the right
way and being a great teammate and player. Both should be paid what they deserve, but Jerry Jones is the one being the cheap
one here IMO.

The Bengals already paid all their other guys and made a decent offer to Trey.

How much was that offer Nate? What was the signing bonus and guaranteed amount?

I was getting out of the car, but I believe the Cowboys told Parson's agent to take a hike and were trying to deal directly with Parsons

Reportedly 28 mil per year, don't know the details but that is a decent amount nearly doubling what he is making now.

Well to start with, they offered him a 12 million dollar raise for this season taking him from the 16 his contract called for to 28....

RE: A tale of two DE's - J24 - 08-06-2025

I dont think either teams or players have represented themselves adequately during their respective negotiations.

Actually, it's not. His cap hit for this year is $18.666M, yes the cash he is due is only 15.8, but $28M isn't near "doubling" his salary. He's worth so much more and the Bengals should do him right and give him the real deal so that he can retire as a Bengal.

Then you can't call it decent.

Even if we ignore the details (which are all that actually matter), 68% of the market isn't "decent". That's like today offering Burrow a $40.8m/yr deal or Chase a $27.2m/yr deal and saying it's a decent offer.

I wonder...would the Cowboys and Bengals consider a DE swap if they both thought they could get the other guy signed to a long-term deal?
Both are very good, both feel their current team doesn't value them properly, and both are in final year under contract.
I have to think Bengals would be more willing to give top end money to Parsons over Hendrickson because of age.

Let me ask you...if you knew your new offered salary was about 70% of your peers and they perform at about the same level as you, would you consider that close enough?

I think if the Bengals were offering $35 mill APY, that's much closer to being "fair," but $28 mill is too far off the contracts that Watt and Garrett got. And their production and age are about the same as Hendrickson, so that can't really be an excuse.

Noone knows the dollar amounts. We do know Trey has a zero guaratee right now so anything offered was a 100% guarantee in 2025 at a minimum. We do know he gets less than 16 million (none guaranteed and thus if he sits out a game loses 950,000 a game.

RE: A tale of two DE's - bfine32 - 08-06-2025

Despite what many on here say, the Bengals are not the "most dysfunctional organization in football".

Nate can call it anything.

You keep forgetting he is under contract for less than 16 million + 200K per game in 2025. So, you compare to others, but he is the one under contract in 2025 and at risk not getting any deal.

Yes, he can, and then I can point out that it's factually incorrect. Who made you questioner of the forum?

How can I forget something that you repeat 5 times per day and literally twice, to me, in the same thread, in the span of 5 minutes?

That's not really an appropriate thing to be directing toward a fellow fan of the team. Just because his opinion differs from yours does not give you the right to attack his person on the issue.

Chase and Burrow are nowhere near 30 years old

Burrow turns 29 during this season. Kinda seems “near” to me. The clock is ticking.
