The Shazier Rule - TRsome - 03-21-2016 As expected: Per PFT Add that to the list of rules made to prevent the Steelers' dirty play after the fact. RE: The Shazier Rule - Garrus - 03-21-2016 How can they make a rule about a rule that already existed? The NFL is funny sometimes. RE: The Shazier Rule - 6andcounting - 03-21-2016 Another offseason moral victory for the Bengals. They're killing it this offseason and it's not even the draft yet. Then they spend the next couple of months saying it was clean. Now they're saying it was dirty and needs removed from the game? Kind of like back in '05. Now it won't matter as long as the defender leads with the crown. You mean in 2005 when they didn't change any rule until after Brady got hurt? That old turd (former VP of officiating..cant remember his name) 'said' that was the intent, but it wasn't worded that way. That's what Blandino backed up. But it's not written that way. This is just another example of the NFL not knowing their asshole from a hole in their face. RE: The Shazier Rule - GMDino - 03-21-2016 (03-21-2016, 06:51 PM)rfaulk34 Wrote: B.S. Quote:NFL V.P. of Officiating Dean Blandino said today that under a new interpretation of the league’s rules against hits with the crown of the helmet, hits like Shazier’s will be illegal going forward. RE: The Shazier Rule - rfaulk34 - 03-21-2016 (03-21-2016, 07:04 PM)GMDino Wrote: From the link in the OP. Yeah...like i said, there is no wording in the written rule about "lining up". That was supposedly the "intent" when the rule was written but there is nothing that specific in the rule. ARTICLE 8. INITIATING CONTACT WITH THE CROWN OF THE HELMET It is a foul if a runner or tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players are clearly outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle to tackle and from three yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team’s end line). Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or tackler against an opponent shall not be a foul. Note: The tackle box no longer exists once the ball leaves the tackle box. RE: The Shazier Rule - StLucieBengal - 03-21-2016 Spearing should have never been tolerated. Everyone is taught that in youth football on up. Even with no wording in the rule, and Blandorko talking about lining up, by his own video they were wrong. The video says only one player needs to "line up" the other player. Not that they have to be squared up, that one player does it. Shazier came in a direct line at Bernard, outside the tackle box and speared him. Moral of the story? Blandino doesn't know what end he's talking out of because he's wrong in both cases. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap2000000247646/NFL-Officiating-Crown-of-the-Helmet-rule https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP4JfqHDlps RE: The Shazier Rule - rfaulk34 - 03-21-2016 (03-21-2016, 07:45 PM)StLucieBengal Wrote: Spearing should have never been tolerated. RE: The Shazier Rule - Garrus - 03-22-2016 I hope Shazier keeps tackling people like that, maybe he will break his neck next time. You will get no argument from me that Blandino isn't an idiot. RE: The Shazier Rule - CJD - 03-22-2016 So the illegal hit that everyone knew was illegal at the time is now officially illegal, despite always being illegal, after the scenario in which it being illegal would have hurt the Steelers chances of advancing in the playoffs had already passed? Good to know, NFL. I thought the hit on Palmer set the rule and the Brady hit just expanded the rule. Also, Brady is a household name. Palmer was not. The Brady Rule sounds better than the Palmer rule which sounds more like a guide to beating one's dick. You may be right. A quick search shows they redefined it after Brady got hurt. |
