The ALMOST Team - BengalChris - 10-30-2016

Yeah, the Bengals are an almost team.

Year and year we have an almost good team. One that can win some, but when it counts the most they finds some new way to be not quite good enough. It's true year after year.

With 5 straight years of basically squeaking into the playoff and many expecting a breakout year if Dalton is healthy the whole way, we find out defense has taken three steps back and our OL has taken 4.

Our HC is almost good. Better than the worst coaches out there, but not good enough to close out a season. He's always almost prepared except for plays where he isn't, of which there are guaranteed to be several. Today, Marvin Lewis called the best used time out of his time as a head coach. Yes, icing the kicker was the his best ever used time out. Years and years of wasted time outs and finally he lucks out with a spectacular one.

Our front office shows super talent evaluation one year, then whiffs on consecutive picks selecting OTs of the future who now appear as if 4 more years of college ball would not have been too much. They stick with an aging kicker who had already showed he was past his prime and is now proving that he is.

Owner Mike Brown has title to the team and is the legal owner, but when it comes to acting like an owner he treats the place more like he were running a kids camp where participation is what counts most. Hurt feelings are just not an option.

Well they did some good things, and that's a good thing.

Progression isn't linear in the NFL. People think that a young team that makes the playoffs one year will be better next year.

That doesn't happen for a variety of reasons. The NFL gives you a tougher schedule and lower draft picks.

The Bengals have taken a HUGE step back defensively this year. Huge. Plus the offensive line has regressed.
