Jackson Carman At Bottom Of Depth Chart
(08-11-2021, 09:50 PM)tms Wrote: Not sure where you heard that. From another board:

"Tony Pike just came on 1530 (at camp today) and said what we have all heard a lot. The interior O line is getting destroyed over and over. Michael Jordan, Filo, Carman, Smith and others have looked terrible... Jackson Carman needed to repeat a hands drill 3 times because he was off on the speed and also he really only received a few reps at the very end of each drill."

Believe who you will. But this one's far more specific and even has a source.

Another one from the Enquirer yesterday (that most people have probably seen):

"In one-on-one drills on Tuesday, Carman went up twice against defensive tackle Freedom Akinmoladun, who isn't projected to make the team. On his first rep, Akinmoladun got under Carman's pads and got to the quarterback under Carman's right arm. On his second rep, Akinmoladun shoved Carman straight back into the pocket... Fourth round pick D'Ante Smith also faced a defensive tackle who isn't projected to make the team in Renell Wren. Smith won both of his matchups."

Heard it from Ben Baby. Freedom A also isn't a 17th string guy like SFB said lol

I liked him every time I have watched him but that could be a bad thing cause he is only facing our OL.

Since when is Renell Wren not projected to make the team?

I think he will be at least the last DL we keep...

At least Carman played well against Chase Young as a Tackle.

He was a consensus top 5 to 10 pick, dominated in PAC , Carman was 2nd round projected 3rd round so that is theory what u go by, for example Marshall stats in his career stack up with Chase but no one put Marshall in top 10.

I've voiced plenty of concern about the off-season but it is still too soon to be writing off a pick. Let's see what he looks like Saturday in game action. There will be plenty of debate after that game as usual.

You're really starting to embarrass yourself by how butthurt you are about not drafting Sewell.

---Marshall had 1,594 yards and 23 TD's in THREE years at LSU.

---Chase had 1,780 yards and 20 TD's in a SINGLE season.

And you're wondering why no one had Marshall in the top 10 like Chase?  Seriously?

It is obvious who can't let the Chase pick over Sewell go (not you Wes). To those fans, we heard you the first time so no need to beat a dead horse. We get it, if Chase is a bust and Sewell is all pro his rookie year, you can say told you so......................over and over again.

I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

Oh no, what's happened to Jessie Bates?

Please don't tell me he's been injured.

I did not care for the pick because of his position. But I never thought he would be that bad of a player.

Talking of being WR #3, I was never keen on the pick as he was only WR#3 in the the draft. For a top 10 pick that never felt like the value I'd expect from such a premium draft slot. There's obviously no guarantees but the odds seem better that the player will stand out in the NFL if they stand out as the best player in their position in the draft class. That two teams in the top 8 coveted a WR but went elsewhere never boded well for Ross as top 10 pick and the expectations of such a lofty draft spot. Once you get past the top one or two at a position ratings seems to vary far more.

The last three drafts (helped by picking earlier having whiffed on C#2, WR#3 and OT #4 in 3 of the 4 prior drafts) however have seen us take the first player in the draft at their position. If we're looking for reasons for optimism most of our first round successes this century have been tended to be the first name off the board at their position...

This, plus Sewell from what I have been hearing has been struggling in Training Camp more than Carman or Chase have...

Sewell's pass protection has been bad and he is getting beat by lots of guy's first step.

This was my concern with Sewell before the Draft. Will take time for him to jump to the NFL if this keeps up.

I wouldn’t agree with that, at least not as much as Carman. Carman is a third stringer on a team bereft of IOL talent. Most reports have Sewell described as “impressive” but he has had struggles in getting beat to the inside because he has a tendency to “set his weight to the outside”.

Really, Sewell is running into the same thing that Chase is likely running into. He is 20 years old, going against grown ass men and hasn’t played football in nearly two years.

Carman was starting the other day, that is old news, that depth chart means nothing now.

Carman just came in a little overweight and Pollack put him deeper on the depth chart cause of it. Wasn't cause of poor play.

Haven't heard anything as bad about Carman's play as Ends and Linebackers beating him on the pass rush all the time.

Some of these guys are backups beating Sewell. I don't care what you say, this was a concern before the Draft.

We all knew it. Chase is way ahead of Sewell. Carman will either start or be the first guy off the bench to come in at RG or RT.

I expect Jackson Carman and D'Ante Smith to play close to three full quarters Saturday. Saturday and the 20th is when they will earn their spot on the depth chart.

The depth chart that was released three days ago is old news and means nothing because Carman played with the ones recently? Okay. If this makes you feel better, then go for it. It’s not an accurate representation of reality, though.

I’m hoping Carman is an All-Pro and Chase is a HoFer. I was completely on board with selecting Chase despite being a Sewell fan (Oregon Ducks fan). I just think it’s weird how you (and others) are trying to make it out like Sewell is performing worse than our second round G who couldn’t even show up to camp in shape.

Really, I can’t wait until we start seeing these players on the field. I think Chase and Sewell will be studs, but I’m skeptical of Carman. We’ll just have to see.

That first depth chart that had Carman 3rd on the depth chart was like 2 weeks ago. I haven't been hearing Carman getting
beat and playing poorly, have only heard about the weight issue. There is a list of guys beating Sewell and speaking of Penei
playing poorly in pass protection. What isn't accurate about that? Comes straight from the Lions.

It wouldn't surprise me if Carman once he gets the move to Guard down he becomes a stud.

I am skeptical of Sewell being a stud early on.

That first depth chart that had Carman as a third stringer came out three days ago, on August 9th, not two weeks ago. Here is the article.

And it means nothing, Sewell playing poorly in pass protection means something.

So, you didn’t even know what in the world you were talking about in regard to the depth chart and are just disregarding it because you feel like it? Alright. Lol.

Sewell has had struggles, but no one has classified him as playing “poorly”. Chase can be a stud. Sewell can be a stud. That’s fine. I’m not arguing that we should have taken one over the other. I’m just arguing that Sewell hasn’t struggled as much as Carman has. That’s okay, too. Carman had a back injury and is switching positions. I just think your argument is weird and comes off as wearing some major orange tinted glasses.

I heard Carman was starting here and there and the depth chart never means much at this time of year.

I tend to believe this and the reports from Lions camp on Sewell. You have Sewell/Oregon Duck colored glasses too dude.

You even admitted so.

Might have something to do with his surgery for the herniated disk, but I've no clue either.

Not sure how he makes it barring some injuries.

Highly doubt they'll keep 6 DTs. He'd probably have to beat out Shelvin who they just spent a 4th rounder on this year, so unlikely to cut.

I guess Wren could make it if they keep 11 DL, but I don't think that's the norm, and with the shaky health and depth of the T position, you probably need to go heavier there instead.
