Ring of Honor Ceremony
(10-05-2021, 10:54 AM)Truck_1_0_1_ Wrote: Given era, team they played on and numbers (I don't know how the two older guys were at blocking), I would actually put:

Trumpy>Ross>McGee>Holman

For a six year stretch '85-'90 Holeman was one of the very best receiving TEs in the league.  No other TE had more receiving tds or a higher average yards per reception.  He was also 3rd in receiving yards.

I don't think Trumpy Ross or McGee were that good for long of a period of time.

Because any other team that had an all time great hang em up 10 years ago would've had them in theirs by now. Just because they took forever to have a ring of honor doesn't mean they have to go in chronological order. He's their all time WR, and put the Bengals back on the map.... He's also never bad-mouthed the organization in his retirement.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

Numbers don't lie in my argument as well though and Holman/McGee were very close in all categories, with one not gaining leverage over the other (as shown above).

If we're going to go with a stretch of time, Eifert has everyone beaten, even with the injuries. On the whole though, Trumpy did the best for the longest.

This.

Chad is the best WR we’ve ever had. Period. He should go in ASAP. I’m hoping it’s him and Willie next.

Plus we need to get him in before Ja'Marr breaks all his records. That kid wasn't joking at the draft.

I'm not disagreeing he needs to go up.... I'm just considering the order. If the older guys don't go up in the next couple of years, they probably never will because no one will remember them.

Sadly that's already happened. I'm in my late 40s, and only barely remember the tail end of Isaac Curtis's career. I don't even remember him as anything special... Though I do know that he was.

When WRs with lesser numbers than Curtis get into
The HoF, then when does he get recognized for
His talents?
Chad Johnson has always got his just due. And rightlfully so. He made football relevant in Cincy
Again. And at the same time Chad was about self
Promotion. Issac Curtis wasnt. He was team 1st.

I bet if you asked Paul Brown or Mike, they would
Say Issac before Chad.
Or better yet, put  them both in the same RoH
Class.

Yeah, how many people on this board actually remember watching  or were old enough to watch guys like Tim Krumrie and Tommy Casanova play?

First year I remember was 1973.  I was 10 years old. We had two big rookies on Offense.  Issac Curtis was a Pro Bowl selection and finished top 5 in the league in yards, tds, and yds/rec.  Boobie Clark finished 8th in rushing yards, 7th in yards from scrimmage, and 6th in rushing tds.

We came within 15 rushing yards of having two 1,000 rushers in a 14 game season.   Essex Johns had 997, and Boobie Clark had 988.

I don't remember a lot of specific games, but I remember beating the Minnesota Vikings late in the year.  They were rolling to a 12-2 season and the Super Bowl while we were struggling to make the playoffs.  We lost to the Dolphins in he playoffs then the Vikings lost to them in the Super Bowl.

I remember an insane Monday night shootout with the Bills when both Ken Anderson and O J Simpson went off.  I thought that was in 2003 because that was the year Simpson got 2003 yards, but it was some other season.  In 1973 we held the Juice under 100 yards

All I remember about Krumrie is the injury in the SB, and everyone at my house freaking out about it. Honestly that’s the main thing I remember about that game in general (I was like 6 years old).

Early 50s here, and Isaac Curtis was speed, class, and everything a Bengal should be. The Ken Anderson to Isaac Curtis connection was every bit as exciting as watching Carson Palmer throwing to Chad Johnson, Andy Dalton lighting it up with AJ Green, and the chemistry we’re starting to see between Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. Let’s not forget Isaac Curtis played in a Super Bowl.

The Ring of Honor isn’t solely about statistics. It’s about overall impact as a Cincinnati Bengal too.

Yeah. The 81 Super Bowl team was my introduction to football. So I do remember Curtis. I just remember Collingsworth a lot more from that time.

Isaac Curtis had his best years in 1974 and 1975. Those two years he averaged over 20 yards per catch. Cris Collinsworth was a terrific receiver as well; very underrated.

Chris snubbed me for an autograph at training camp in Wilmington when I was probably 9. Not really in a dickish way... Just that he'd signed a ton, and decided he was done. Anyway... Jim Breech saw it happen, and came up to me, and said "hey I'll sign it for you". I never forgot that.

On a similar note... I took my ex wife's son to a paid signing and picture thing with AJ Green and Marvin Jones in 2015. Kid's actually a Browns fan, but he thought it was cool. AJ was swarmed with people, but was very polite if not somewhat aloof... Marvin was pretty much an afterthought. He had a nice quick conversation with the kid, and took a freebie selfie with us... That dude is classy.

You just triggered me by mentioning Marvin Jones! Getting rid of Marvin Jones, Mohamed Sanu, and Andrew Whitworth was STUPID! I can just see Mike Brown telling Andy Dalton he was supposed to succeed by only throwing to AJ Green. Without weapons any quarterback will look pedestrian.

I remember Casanova well. I had his jersey number 37 on my 7th grade football team even though back then I played DE because I was tall for my age and could outrun everyone on the team and because of that the ball never came my way except once when a QB tried to run past me and I turned his facemask into a big ol mud pie. After that every play went to the opposite side of the field so by the time I got there the play was over.. LOL The rest of the team kind of sucked so it wasn't much fun to lose game after game, but practice was fun..

Yeah... Marvin Jones was really good in 2015 and pretty damn good in 2013. He was a huge loss, and replaced by Brandon LaFell. Losing Eifert and Jones (and honestly Hue Jackson) really hobbled the offense, and even started the downward trajectory of Dalton's career.

There are many, many things to criticize the Bengals for, but Marvin Jones leaving is not one of them. He made it quite clear he wanted to go be a #1 somewhere else.

And they did draft Tyler Boyd the year Jones and Sanu left, so it’s not really accurate to say they didn’t give Dalton any other weapons besides AJ.
