Yeah the Bengals are 4 and 2.with a chance
To be 5 and 2-after the Ravens game
But that doesnt mean there isnt areas of
Concern.
Yesterday when the Lions were in obvious passing
Mode in the 2nd half, I was watching the push
Or lack of from the interior.
Trey Hendrickson has been as advertised.
But we cant continue to depend on him to
Get to the QB on a consistant basis.
Yeah he can beat the Sewells all day long off
The edge.that's not that hard.
But guys like Oghenjobi and Hill and Reader
Need to really start pushing that pocket back.
They looked so promising in the Vikings game
And Steelers game
But the last 3.games Im not seeing the consistant
Pass rush from the interior.
I have a feeling Trey is going to see alot more double teams going foward.
This defense can make money if the front 4
Can get home in obvious passing downs.
But it cant be the Hendrickson Show
Its inpossible to rely on him to put the QB on the ground

In the perfect world yes.
It's not going to happen all the time.
You got guys on opposing OLs that are just as determined as they are.

There was a couple times towards the end of the game that they looked gassed or not giving their all. Timeout's were called and the line came out of the time out with a little more energy.

With the line rotation, they should not be getting gassed. Of course they played an extra quarter last week, so maybe they were.

The pass rush has seemed to have disappeared recently and then I saw this tweet from Joe Goodberry. Our sacks by game has been 3/3/4/1/2/1 for 14 total (10th in the league). Over the past few games, it has basically been Trey gets home or no one does. The defense keeps getting it done though.

Yes Reader, Hill and Ogunjobi need to step it up on interior pressure.

It is rare to get big sack numbers from interior line men.
Last year only 10 NFL teams had a DT with at least 4 sacks. This year Hill already has 3 for us.
We need good pressure from our DTs. But it is not as big of an issue as some here are claiming.

They are on pace for 14 sacks and 20 QB hits.
I'd say those are pretty good numbers to get from interior D-linemen.

Its big when you only have 1-DE that can consistantly
Get around the corner and finish the QB off.
Ogenjobi and Hill were brought on board on their
Ability to make life uncomfortable for the QB.
Its impertative you force a QB to get happy feet
In the pocket.

I think part of the plan was to play Hubbard, C. Sample, and Kareem inside on passing downs a lot, with Hendrickson and Ossai outside. With Ossai & Kareem hurt, Hubbard and Sample have had to play a ton of snaps outside instead of boosting the interior pass rush inside on passing downs. The run stopper guys have been playing on a lot of passing downs as a result (Reader, Tupou, Ogunjobi, etc).

That's what I was thinking. Sure, there's always going to be exceptions to the rule, but I think our line is doing pretty solid.

All I'm seeing ITT is people referencing sacks and not total pressure.
Goff was running around when he wasn't getting it out quickly yesterday and that was due to the pressure he (fairly-consistently) faced, even if it didn't amount to a hit or a sack.
The pressure's gone nowhere, we just aren't seeing as many sacks is all.

Ogunjobi knee being banged up hasn’t helped. I think the game plan has been to shut down the run in the most recent games, so they haven’t pinned their ears back as much.

I’m addition to that, it doesn’t really matter if the IDL is getting sacks when you hold the opposing team to 61 yards in the first half. There is a reason teams haven’t been able to throw deep on us often, the rush is getting there quickly most the time.

Sacks are great but team defense and incomplete passes due to pressure forcing fast throws is just as good. The defense is playing great, even in the losses they've looked great, a lack of sacks isn't a worry to me when they are still holding the opposing offense in check.
Plus, if the DL is staying in their lanes and not over pursuing to chase a sack that keeps the QB from escaping for a big run which against the Ravens will be vital.

They were smashing them and took the foot off the gas. The interior has been excellent BJ Hill has 3 sacks which is 4th overall for DTs and Oginobi has been wrecking the pocket. I don't agree with this as an issue.. The game was over.. They were in prevent...

Well we know Hubbard isn't much of a pass rusher. His forte is run defense.
He's been better as a pass rusher inside though, so perhaps they can try him more inside.
He does have 12 total pressures though, which is more than our DTs combined.
Per stats on Pro-Football-Reference, Ogunjobi only has 2 pressures (1 hurry, 1 sack, 0 knockdowns).
Hill has 4 pressures (3 sacks, 1 hurry, 0 knockdowns).
Reader has 3 pressures (1 sack, 2 knockdowns, 0 hurries).
Tupou 1 pressure (1 knockdown).
That's not getting it done in the passing game.
EDIT - Cam Sample has 6 pressures. 1 sack, 3 hurries, 2 knockdowns. Perhaps they can get either Hubbard or Sample playing DT on passing downs in place of one of the other DTs.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

I think the concern is that Hill's 3.0 sacks came in the first 3 games. Nothing the past 3 games. OP just wants more consistent production out of the DTs.

The Bengals’ defensive line works this way: The pass rush comes from the defensive ends and the run stuffing comes from the defensive tackles. The sacks are primarily made by Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson while most of the tackles for loss against the run are made by BJ Hill and Larry Ogunjobi.
The idea against the pass is to have Hill and Ogunjobi eat up at least three blockers while Hendrickson and Hubbard each fight off a single blocker. Against the run it’s the opposite.
