When I think of "skill set", I'm thinking of physical skills. The pocket stuff was mental, and any mental part of a QB's game can be worked on and improved. We've now seen that first hand. Of course, I don't think anyone believed the improvement would be so drastic and sudden. I predicted a 90+ rating but the dude is sitting at 111.0. It sure has been fun to watch. As for his arm, I've always thought he showed plenty of arm to make all the necessary throws. When he floated balls or lacked zip, it was usually a mechanical issue. Usually the problem was that he would anticipate pressure that wasn't there, he'd ditch the pocket prematurely, and that would lead to a breakdown in his mechanics (failure to set his feet was a big problem).

While Andy is a team guy I would imagine there will be plenty of chirping in his ear. Fair pay is fair pay and with 5 straight playoff appearances and the franchise records he holds and heaven forbid they make a playoff run this year I could see the guy thinking he is worth more than 14m a year.

He'll still be the highest paid Bengal while not being the best player on the team. So I figure he should be happy with the mega millions he's getting paid. Besides, we know exactly how Mikey B deals with holdout malcontents: he'll be traded to whoever will cough up the most picks that's not in the AFC North. The Bengals will then keep their surrounding talent and bring in another signal caller and move on as if nothing happened. Been there and seen that. If you think it would go any other way, then think again.

That's the perk of playing QB. LT make more than RG. You can have the best RG but an average LT and he'd make more.

Regardless of where Dalton's contract currently ranks (I wouldn't mind seeing a link just out of curiosity), it's more than enough to keep him content for a few seasons, especially if he wins 1-2 playoff games. Again, QB's don't hold out. It's a bad look. He'll cash in again soon enough, and the market will only get bigger and bigger. It'd probably pay to wait anyway.

True, but he would make more than HOF QB Tom Brady Also, MB honored a contract this year to Leon Hall (clearly overpaid at 9.6 million cap hit) so he has ammo on his side honoring bad contracts for the team, it should work both ways. I don't see AD as the kind of guy to destroy the team's capability to pay others for the team roster to stay strong, but I could be wrong

I agree as his current contract does escalate each year in a big way (raises built in already)

The quarterback is smart enough to know, the weapons around him have as much to do with his personal success as anything so he's not going to go all diva and look to break the bank.
I don't doubt that the Bengals will look to restructure if the Bengals go deep into the playoffs, either this offseason or next. They always look to lock up the QB, and do it at a price they and the player can afford. "The measure of a man's intelligence can be seen in the length of his argument."

Football is still a team sport. Andy has played better this year but so has the entire team. It wasn't solely on Andy when we lost and it isn't when we're winning.

But I could see a reworking of the current contract to further decrease his cap hit while paying him more money since in essence Andy is on a pay as you play contract and honestly I do not think any QBs are happy about those. And even with some FAs needing to be signed this year the Bengals should still have enough money to make a little gift a reality. Tom Brady's salary and hit this year is small because thats the way his deal was structured as it reaches the end kind of like how everyone was making more money than Eli/Rivers/Rothlisburger at the end of their last deals.

MB, as much as I dislike saying nice things about him, has honored the team's side of contracts and not just Leon Hall's. I also don't see Dalton as a guy to get into a contract dispute at the expense of keeping the team strong. If he turns out to be that kind of guy, then we can expect MB to stay to form and send him packing to whatever NFL Siberia there may be at that time.

As long as fans aren't dumping trash on his lawn, I don't see Andy as a guy that would make waves. Besides the boobirds, I think he truly likes it in Cincinnati.
On the old board, a lot of people were saying Dalton got too much money. I tried to put it into perspective because the cap is going to continue to rise. With the big, new TV revenue that will be in the very near future, the cap is projected to jump in a big way. Whether we win a Super Bowl with him or not, Dalton's deal was a bargain. I don't care how much you hate the guy, he's done nothing but solid for this organization. We can argue stats or whatever, but how nice is it expecting the playoffs now instead of hoping for them? Don't give me this not the best player stuff, Dalton has been a big contributor to the culture change of this organization. I know everyone wants the Heisman, big arm, big school, tall, non-ginger QB because that's what looks good on the cover of SI. Objectively speaking, Andy Dalton has been above average in his first 4 seasons and this year is going way above that.
