One of my biggest pre-season concerns that I had almost forgotten.

Jonah Willliams playing a full season.

This was possibly my biggest concern this past off season..  Even the best teams miss on first round picks sometimes, but we had been on one of the worst streaks I have ever seen.  So when Williams missed 22 of 32 games his first two seasons I was very close to giving up hope on him.

He is still no big star, but he is a good solid starter.  And, most importantly, he has shown he can stay healthy.  He has not missed a single snap all year.

Best description of Jonah ever. Never going to be the guy you are excited about having but he is middle of the pack and solid enough. 

Like some of the Andre Smith seasons. Not a pro bowler but he'll hold a spot.

I love joe burrow, but even pff has cited how some of the sacks charged to the offensive line was a byproduct of burrow holding the ball to long as in 4 plus second to long..

Hopefully Chase just broke the Bengals streak of 1st round players getting injured.

Although it did pass down to our 3rd round pick though with Ossai going down year.

Just need it to go away for good, we have paid our dues in this direction enough already.

Ossai's injury was Paul Brown reaching down, telling his son "WTF don't you understand about needing O-line?"

Ossai is a luxury pick when you are loaded at every position. The Bengals were not even close to being in this situation.

Pass rush wasn't the problem last year. The pass rush improved the instant LeShaun Sims put Cincinnati in his rear view mirror. Cam Sample was also unneeded as was that fat slob Shelvin, who has done absolutely NOTHING in his brief appearances.

Hopefully, Ossai will wind up being a great player, but it would be nice if Cincinnati actually paid attention to their own ***** roster when trying to put one together.

They were paying attention to their roster. They saw that they were dead last in the league in sacks. How anyone could suggest a team with only 17 sacks in an entire season didn’t need immediate help in that area is beyond me.

I think our DEs suffered because we had probably the worst DTs in the league, but we still had to do a lot to address pass rush.

The sentence following your highlighted one explains it.

Many of the sacks this year are coverage sacks or QBs trying to scramble(Sample, Hill and sometimes Hubbard and Ogunjobi). That didn't happen very much last year. Outside of Hendrickson, not many sacks are linemen beating OL at the point of attack.

Lawson was among the 2020 league leaders in QB hits, win rate and pressures but had few sacks because someone was almost always open.

We have the 27th ranked pass defense in the league. Accrediting them as the sole reason our pass rush is significantly improved is beyond silly. It’s improved because they went out and got guys like Hendrickson, Ogunjobi, Hill, etc. And that’s where their minds where at when they drafted Ossai as well.

But sure, his injury is totally “Paul Brown punishing us”

Most underrated player on the team. Him, Spain, and Rieff are underrated contributors to the team. RG and C(Although Hopkins as played well at the end of season) need work.

He won't. He is who he is. He's not a project, he's a placeholder. I'm just happy he's healthy. I think he'd work better inside but we don't have the luxury of moving him there. 

There's nothing "Top 10" about this line,  tho- individually or collectively. We can't run from the fact that they led the league in sacks. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Speaking of that…

Which one do you think helps a pass rush more?

1.) You need both pressure and coverage to get sacks. It's not a one or the other situation.

2.) We signed Rief in free agency, resigned Spain, and drafted 3 players on the Offensive line in 2022. To say we ignored the Offensive Line is a bit ridiculous.

3.) You need to have a 8-9 man rotation on the defensive line to be good. So adding a guy like Oassi should be a very good thing for the us in the future.
