Joe Burrow throwing hand surgery would have been huge news.

It would have been reported by every media outlet. These guys literally scour every word from every news article from random sites like NFL Trade Rumours and CincyJungle to NFL Reporters like Mike Garafolo and Adam Schefter.

Edit: Also Hobson is usually the very last person to report anything.

Joe made a comment along the lines of that he may need surgery after the season but that he wasn't going to worry about it until then. Any surgery on that hand would be relatively minor, like putting a pin in the joint to keep it in place. It would take a hand surgeon, under a local anesthesia, about 5 minutes to perform that. It is too late to repair any torn tendons if that is a problem. I asked my hand surgeon about it a couple of days ago because I was curious. He did qualify his answer with saying he didn't know what the problem was with the hand and the extent of any damage

I have not found anything saying 100% that surgery was absolutely necessary and happening
