Are we over-rating CJ Uzomah?

Should be less reliant on TEs blocking anyway with more OL improvements. Or take a flier on Hayden Hurst or OJ Howard. Meh TE just really isn't where I would want to allocate significant cap space to. Doubly so when you already have one of the best WR groups in the league.
Evan Engram fast enough to get up the seam and downfield for some huge chunk plays in this offense.

Thanks for the huge plays against Ravens and other teams to get Bengals to THE SUPER BOWL. If you do leave Uzomah, the 2021 Super Bowl season will not be forgotten. Nothing over rated about helping get this team back to Play-Off Wins and Super Bowl.

Tiger Who Dey Tiger

This is what I’ve been trying to say. He is one of 5 guys any defense has to honor or he will burn them. His number will be affordable.

Evan Engram is closer to a slot receiver than he is a TE. Also he jsut signed a 1 year 9 mil deal with the Jags.

Evan Engram is 6'3 240 that's much closer to a TE than a slot WR thanks

They occupy the same space and run similar routes.

However, I fear we may be over-rating him and I think paying him a top 10 TE contract would be a mistake. When he is on the field he is the defenses 5th priority behind Chase, Higgins, Boyd and Mixon. I think we could easily match his production with a much cheaper option or even a 2nd or 3rd round rookie. I worry if we dish him out 8-10m a year we may not spend that money on a solid olinemen which would be much more valuable. The scarcity in the TE market this off-season is going to mean he WILL get some decently big offers. As painful as it is to let him go I think paying him and not spending that money on a OL, DT or CB would come back to haunt us.

I believe you could be undervaluing what he brings to the team beyond the field. He is more than an A+ locker room guy. He is a catalyst and a spark plug and if he is being looked at by a defense as a 5th option then those 4 options ahead of him are some damn good players.

Engram plays more in the slot than at Tight End. He is very similar to Dolphins Mike Geiski. Posting his size has nothing to do with it.

He got the same deal as Dissely that I mentioned earlier. Options at vet TE are a bit limited at this point. Probably looking at a mid round TE in the draft but not the best draft for needing a TE to contribute early.

Oh BLEEP! At least #87 will be available when Gronk comes to Cincinnati.

Gerald Everett is the name im hearing. I love CJ but im fine with not paying a TE 8m APY with all the talent we have on this offense. Can get similar production for much cheaper.

Tre McBride, Jalen Wydermyer, and Jelani Woods really fit what the Bengals are looking for in a TE.

Woods in 3 he won't be there in the 4th.

I’m not sure the Bengals overrated CJ Uzomah but I do believe the Jets overpaid him.

CJ made all the plays we needed him to this season. He put up solid numbers and great highlights even though we didn’t feature the tight end much in our offense. CJ is easily the second best Bengals tight end I’ve seen after Eifert. If anything he was an underrated player who provided us outstanding value. We can probably do better, but that’s not a sure thing based on this team’s history with tight ends

I haven’t seen him play but he’s young and his numbers look good. I’m all for bringing him in. Past history shows that we will not upgrade the tight end position though. But who knows, maybe the front office is on the phone with Conklin or Gronk right now.

I dont disagree but we never signed guards and got 2 this year.....

I like DOnte Jackson at CB - extremely fast and LSU guy, Conklin devastating target for Joe and Collins at RT... and we are set.

Yeah I think he was underrated. He didn't have all the stats week in and week out. But he did things that he might not get credit for on top of being a locker room leader and hype man. He fights for the extra yards to pick up the 1st down and did it more often than not. I know he had a key block on that 1st Chase TD week 17 against KC that was a bit of a turning point in the game.
