The Colts have signed Khalid Kareem from the Bengals practice squad. Kareem has shown flashes (Denver last season) but he has been snakebit injury wise

What do we know about Trevor Denbow?

Does that mean the Bengals will sign the kid they cut from the PS yesterday?

Who do the Bengals have on the 53 who might be wasting space that could be occupied by someone on the practice squad. Is Kevin Huber still on the 53? Is Jackson Carmen worth taking up a spot on the 53? Are the Bengals at risk of losing Trenton Irwin to a WR-needy team? (At this point, Irwin has more catches and yards in 3 games than Thomas, Morgan, and Taylor had in 8 to 10 games. In fact, he has more yards than the other 3 players combined, and the only TD.)

Is there a PS player (DT) out there we can poach? Curtis Brooks maybe? (went to UC)

Presumably, there are 496 practice squad players available for poaching. Since they haven't done so as of yet, leads to the idea that the coaches do not believe any position group is in dire enough straits to pick up another player

Well, Khalid Kareem just got poached. And he won't be the last one. Taking someone from another team's practice squad is not exactly an unknown phenomena. Just a month ago the Ravens signed a linebacker off the Giants practice squad. Of course, as you said, teams can protect some practice squad players and I assume those would be the most at risk of being poached.

It's not "poaching", as they are not fish or game species being taken illegally..
Think of it more as like a mechanic reaching into the spare parts bin, but more as a community spare parts bin.

Kareem > Ossai
Oh well, I don’t blame them. It’s hard to give up on a young guy that sacked Brady once in the preseason over a guy that can’t stay healthy. Some ninja/some truth

I don't know about that.
Last year, on 165 snaps, Kareem had 4 total pressures, 12 tackles with 2 misses and 7 stops.
This year, on 178 snaps, Ossai has 10 total pressures, 6 tackles with 0 misses and 4 stops.

As I step into this next chapter, I want to take a moment to thank the coaches & staff at the Bengals for giving the kid from the suburbs of Detroit the opportunity to live out my childhood dreams.
To my teammates, I can’t express how much I appreciate y’all for making the last 2.5 years special.
And to Who Dey Nation thank you for making me feel at home and supporting me from day one.
I’m forever grateful for all of the amazing memories & lifelong friendships I’ve made in the Queen City.
Now it’s time to get to work??

Ossai has terrible instincts. He looked really bad the last game . I'm hoping he turns it on soon

ok, so now who do we poach??? I agree Ossai has been largely MEH all season....not even close to living up to his one game wonder preseason HYPE tape as the TB 12 sack artist.
for the record, Im all in if we draft a legit edge rusher in rd 1 next yr. Time to get serious bout the pass rush!!

Meh.
Kareem may have been ok occasionally as a depth guy who is ok against the run, but he's lacking pass rush ability severely.
He was a late-round pick for a reason.
Doesn't really matter if he's somewhere else.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Hendrickson hasn't produced like he has the past two years (frankly hard to keep that pace), and Hubbard is probably always going to be a 5-8 sack a season guy.
If the Bengals want to really try to get 3 edge guys on the field often, I agree another edge makes sense.
However, if they primarily want to run a 4-man pass rush, it might make sense to get another interior pass rusher instead.
I agree though, another pass rusher (inside or outside) would probably be wise.

I mean, that is blatantly false, but that's ok.
Liddy's better against the run, but we don't play Ossai on run downs, so it's a moot point.
Funny, I'm defending Ossai over Liddy and I am a MUCH bigger fan of Kareem than Ossai lol. Gotta throw bias out the window when being objective!

Draft Karl Brooks from BGSU.
Guy is a monster and unless he shoots up draft boards, should be able to be had in the 3rd or 4th round.

I'm really rooting for the guy but he doesn't show a lot. I'm often surprised at the number of snaps he and Carter get in the stat sheet because I see so little of them during the game.
From my memory, Kareem wasn't labeled as a pass rush specialist and only cost them a 5th round pick.
Ossai is supposed to be a pass rusher but cost them a valuable high 3rd round pick when they desperately needed o-linemen. That's my biggest hang up with him and his lack of productivity at this point. They already had two starters in newly signed Hendrickson and were in negotiations to extend Hubbard. They spent their high third rounder(Ossai) and high fourth rounder(Sample) on scheduled backup DEs before drafting a developmental T in Smith. All they had added to a QB killing, shit o-line at that point was Rieff on a one year deal and Jackson ***ing Carman from the day before. I thought, "He must've been too good to pass up. He needs to improve the pass rush immediately to prove that he's worthy of a draft slot that high."
Getting a sack against the Falcons near the tail end of a blowout is pace for two or three sacks a year and that's not improving the pass rush. Until he shows something in an important game, like Kareem has already done, he's a bust that should have been an o-lineman. All we heard was Chase or Sewell. Basically "Tremendous Athlete vs Glaring Need". Nowhere in there was it anything like Chase or Sewell and then FINALLY get a couple of backup DE because that's pretty much all he and Sample have shown themselves to be.
Only users lose drugs.
