I like both of those guys Bilbo. Good stuff.

They're young, cheap guys that have some experience in the system, and that's somewhat valuable.
Yeah, Tufele was pretty great stopping the run while DJ was out, want him back as the backup NT.
Carter did look better late in the year. Not giving up on him yet. I like the way Gunter looked too at times.
Honestly if BJ Hill and Carter get better at collapsing the pocket we might already have our game wreckers who knows.

I'm really warming up to Calijah Kancey. He's every bit the athlete you want as a pass rushing interior lineman. Size is his issue, but Geno Atkins and Aaron Donald both flourished as smaller under tackles. His stature may cause him to fall to the Bengals. I feel like he has the potential to be that game wrecker that slips due to measurables as opposed to actual ability.
It gets somewhat overlooked because of issues on the OL, but this team has lacked an interior pass rush since the departure of Atkins.
Really starting to like this kid.

Will have to look up Calijah Kancey. That is what is cool about this thread, it honestly is an underrated need. Nothing wrong with admitting
that BJ Hill is a great run stopper and an okay pass rusher but not quite what we need, same with Carter. Was surprised how good Carter
was against the run but as you say Samhain, we might need that specialist like Kancey to really wreck the other team's plans in passing
situations.

Just watched a couple vids on Calijah Kancey, crazy quick like Aaron Donald quick at times and was impressed by his run
stopping for an undersized 3-tech. Yeah, would love to add this guy. I was wrong to think he was only a pass rusher.
My eyes are little more wide open watching Kancey, reminds me of Geno a bit, very strong and quick.

I think we go inside pass rush. Bengals like powerful edge setters rather lighter speedsters. I think we had genuine interest in Logan Hall last year before Tampa Bay scooped him up early in round 2. If the 2 studs drop Bresee (because NFL teams are wary that Clemson always overhypes their DL prospects and they have a bad track record as 1st rounders in the NFL) or Carter (red flags + fatal accident, very chancy), hope we take Bresee, pass on Carter. I'd like to see Kancey in the 2nd round (because questions about his run defense), but I feel like it could be a Logan Hall scenario all over again, someone nabbing him before our 2nd pick.

Yeah, was really wanting Logan Hall last year myself till Tampa scooped him up in front of us. Happy we got CTB though of course.
Bresee I also like over Jalen Carter. Also, the Miami Dolphins DT made Clemson's bad track record better this year.

I get that. Would be interesting, though, to have Kancey rotate in on passing downs. No doubt that it's a passing league, and on third down/late in games a guy like him could be a difference maker. Having Reader and Hill also means that he would not be under pressure to play every down, thus giving him time to grow into the league, possibly literally.
The kid just blew up the combine. 4.69 40, 425lb bench along with an insane vertical. He's the definition of an explosive athlete. He may not make it to us in round 2.

Kancey was blowing up the run in a lot of the vids I saw, but yeah, highlights and he will be undersized big time in the NFL and if we
do draft him we don't want to take away his obvious gift, which is an explosive athletic pass rusher. Could be a great complement to
DJ and BJ and give us an aspect we do not have at the moment. Wouldn't be against trading back out of 28 if Darnell Wright isn't there
and grabbing Kancey now at all. Like you said, may not make it to our pick at 60.

I see some mocks with them taking Nolan Smith but then seeing Steelers grabbing him in other mocks and adding to thier already deep pass roster on rushers ...or maybe they go out and sign a FA or via trade?
I would not say it is something that is obvious. I think we have a very good D-line and if I am not mistaken we were very respectable in pressure on the opposing QB this season. Ossai is back healthy and showed toward the end of the season that he has got his legs back under him. Then we have Hendrickson and Hubbard and I believe Gunter could be a factor with a season to mature.
Inside we all know Reader is a block eater who can still push the line with two men on him. BJ Hill has played very well and Zach Carter is on the rise and has showed that he has got some skills.
The cupboard is not bare by any means. Should we look or guys to add to the mix? Certainly, but we are not in bad shape at all.

True, if anything it is an underrated need for a breakout player on the DL besides Hendrickson who had a bit of a down year sacks wise.
It isn't a weakness but could be upgraded if players like Carter or Sample/Gunter don't show up big time. I think Ossai does as an Edge.
Collapsing the middle of the OL quickly could take this D from really good to elite though.

I don't wholly disagree, but BJ and Larry had 12.5 sacks in '21.
We need one more.

Oh, I'm not saying I hate our starters. Reader is an elite player and BJ is no slouch.
Like you, I think one more with an emphasis on pass rush would be excellent.

Yes, it is more of a knock it out of the park type of addition if we do go that route.
Cherry on top pick if we added a game wrecker at 3-tech.

I was glad to see Kancey measure in over 6', but 280? Geno was over 290. Putting this kid on Geno and AD level is tad scary for me.
Klancey had 16 sacks and 34 TFLs in college, AD had 27 and 63 (both 3 years), that is a huge difference.
I like Mazi Smith and Keeanu Benton as safer picks backing up DJ.

I'm feeling the Northwestern kid as a dominate 3T honestly and would love him at 28 of we don't go OT. Hes short like Kancey but doesn't have the length questions as he has 34" arms. Tested as well and dominated the Senior Bowl so you know he has the ability if put in the right position.
I'm just glad he's getting this hype now and I called it out 2-3 months ago lol.

That is a little light for DT and yes AD was much more productive at ND, but I still think he could help us as a pass rusher. I do really
like Mazi Smith, probably more than Kancey. Kancey's size might be the reason he falls and we could snatch him up a bit later though.
Remember Zachary Carter played a lot of edge at Florida and was undersized as well coming into the NFL to be a DT.
